About OWL

Old Well Labs is a financial intelligence startup in South End, Charlotte building the institutional investment industry’s next generation of analytics tools. Our platform centralizes billions of data points on fund managers globally and leverages AI to bring clarity to complex data.

About the Role

We are hiring our first Platform Engineer to lead the build-out of platform engineering at OWL. This is a foundational hire who will set the long-term direction for infrastructure, security, and developer enablement while staying deeply hands-on in building it. You will partner with the VP of Engineering, along with product and data teams, to guide platform strategy and establish standards that ensure OWL’s systems scale with the company. Our DevOps model is service-driven: we build reusable tools, patterns, and automation that give engineers autonomy.

What You’ll Do
  • Set Standards and Direction: Work with the VP of Engineering, product, and data teams to define platform engineering practices, architecture, and tooling.

  • Deliver Self-Service Capabilities: Build Terraform modules, deployment scripts, and CI/CD workflows that developers can use independently.

  • Lead Infrastructure Strategy: Guide AWS infrastructure design and operations to ensure reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

  • Drive Security and Compliance: Lead SOC 2 readiness and enforce least-privilege access across AWS and databases. Experience with ISO 27001 is also relevant.

  • Observability and Analytics: Expand monitoring and product analytics with Datadog and PostHog so system health and product usage are visible and actionable.

Tech Stack
  • Languages and Frameworks: Python (Flask, FastAPI, data pipelines), React

  • Infrastructure and Cloud: AWS (ECS, Fargate, EC2, RDS, Elasticache, VPC, Route53, S3, Step Functions), Docker, Terraform

  • CI/CD and Quality: GitHub with GitHub Workflows, Sonar

  • Databases: Postgres, SQL Server

  • Monitoring and Analytics: Datadog, PostHog

Who We Are Looking For
  • 8+ years in platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering

  • Proven track record leading platform initiatives across multiple teams

  • Expertise in AWS, Terraform, Docker, ECS or Fargate

  • Strong background in compliance-driven environments such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001

  • Experience building developer platforms that emphasize self-service and autonomy

Bonus
  • Experience administering AWS IAM at scale

  • Experience with database administration, ideally Postgres

  • Background in application and infrastructure security

Position Location

Charlotte. We are hybrid (in office Tuesday–Thursday).

Compensation
  • Competitive annual salary + target equity
