Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse. There are more than 20M users of Grafana, the open source visualization tool, around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a NASA launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies -- including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay -- manage their observability strategies with the Grafana LGTM Stack, which can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud or self-managed with the Grafana Enterprise Stack, both featuring scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).
We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.
This is a remote opportunity and we are interested in applicants from USA and Canadian time zones only at this time.
The Opportunity:The Metrics Drilldown team builds intuitive, guided workflows that make complex telemetry easy to explore and understand. We let users navigate seamlessly through their metrics, facilitating their ability to gain insights and identify issues.
Our mission is to design and maintain intuitive, opinionated, queryless user experiences that empower users to quickly answer telemetry questions through simple point-and-click interactions.
What we do:- Guided Exploration: We build simple, intuitive UIs that help users troubleshoot and answer questions without writing queries.
- Cross-Data Insights: We seek opportunities to integrate the Metrics Drilldown plugin with other parts of the Grafana ecosystem, in order to provide a seamless experience to users.
- Community Driven: We listen to users and contributors, and turn feedback into real improvements.
- Operational Excellence: We write robust, extensible code and own qualification and delivery of our plugin. We monitor usage and performance and always look for ways to improve our functionality and increase the efficiency of our workflows.
- No blame: We cultivate a growth mindset, with a focus on learning and improving ourselves and our product.
- Better done than perfect: We iterate quickly and deliver value continuously.
- Experimentation: We develop ideas for new offerings and try them out, then monitor their usage and user feedback on them.
- Performance is non-negotiable: Drilldown must always feel responsive and interactive.
- Mentorship & Innovation: we grow together through knowledge sharing, mentorship, internal hackathons, and constant learning.
- Improve and enhance metrics exploration workflows, holistically influencing the entire stack from Mimir to Metrics Drilldown.
- Collaborate with your team and with others at Grafana to deliver new features, analyze outcomes, and make improvements.
- Lead projects from concept to implementation, incorporating ongoing customer support.
- Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives.
- Participate in shared on-call rotations and take responsibility for the services you oversee.
- Support and mentor team members, engage in design conversations, and work closely with colleagues.
- Expand your skill set by deepening your knowledge of our cloud products, understanding our customers, and learning about our codebase.
As we have embraced a remote-first approach and our engineering team is primarily remote, it is essential to possess strong communication skills and the ability to work independently. We provide support and hold regular meetings through video calls to ensure effective collaboration and alignment.
What Makes You a Great Fit:- You are a motivated self-starter with a bias toward action.
- You embrace a user-centric design sensibility.
- You can take complex challenges and break them down to achieve short feedback loops: to analyze, design, and build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback and then progress iteratively.
- You invest in your colleagues and generously share your experience and knowledge, while also learning from your peers and growing your own skillset.
- You know how to communicate and collaborate effectively in a remote first environment.
- Deep experience building integrated, frontend applications with React and TypeScript, following modern patterns and best practices.
- Proven ability to take ideas from concept to reality — from brainstorming and design discussions to prototypes, polished UIs, and production-ready features.
- Strong sense of product design and usability, with the ability to contribute creatively to user workflows and visual polish.
- Expertise in best-in-class coding practices, including automation-based testing strategies, maintainable architectures, accessibility, and performance optimization.
- Excellent communication skills in a remote-first, collaborative environment, with a track record of working effectively across teams.
- Bonus: Experience contributing across the stack from frontend to backend.
