Position SummaryThe Staff Digital Experience Designer leads multiple design work streams to solve complex business challenges across a digital solution portfolio, being an advocate for users through extensive knowledge of user-centered design processes. This role will support Aetna's Medicaid Tech portfolio, which covers multiple product lines and digital solutions serving a TBD mix of member, partner, and colleague audiences. The initial focus will be on member enrollment and provider selection. The candidate will build and foster knowledge of users and business needs within the portfolio, and work hand-in-hand with other disciplines and stakeholders to deliver digital solutions.
Primary job responsibilities will include:
- Proactively demonstrate the value of design, help drive feature requirements, and ensure deliverables support both user needs and healthcare business goals.
- Build relationships and collaborate closely with Product, Business, and Engineering partners to drive alignment, accountability, and efficiency across the team.
- Ensure user-centricity early in the design process, validating requirements through discovery of user needs, pain points, and mental models.
- Drive early alignment on solution direction through user flows, low-fidelity sketches, and test-and-learn cycles.
- Define and maintain information architecture for digital solutions, and ensure consistency across solutions serving similar user audiences.
- Create and deliver detailed designs and prototypes that support end-to-end user journeys.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure the accuracy and quality of UI development
- Lead and deliver on moderated usability studies, ensuring unbiased, measurable research goals and outcomes.
- Incorporate inclusive design thinking into all elements of the design process, including annotating designs for enterprise accessibility guidelines.
- Support team-level work planning, and help align with Product and Engineering partners on scope, prioritization, and timelines.
- Provide coaching and support to junior designers, modeling design best practices and delivery discipline.
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leaders and stakeholders with clarity and accountability.
- Foundational characteristics include empathy, creative problem-solving, comfort with uncertainty, collaboration, iteration, communication skills, excellent technical design skills, and curiosity.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in responsive Web and native app-based UX, UI or blended UX/UI design, including 3 years leading design projects
- Proven experience in the job responsibilities listed in the Position Summary above
- Strong portfolio showing delivery of complex digital solutions, including examples of experience design within the health insurance or related industry
- Ability to develop subject-matter expertise within a specific business area
- Applied experience in designing based on enterprise and/or 3rd party design systems
- Advanced proficiency with Figma design, collaboration, and delivery
- Deep understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design, and able to collaborate with inclusive designers to arrive at accessible solutions
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills
- Ability to elevate design quality and advocate for user-centered practices within a traditionally engineering-focused culture
- Ability to think across systems and touchpoints to deliver seamless, end-to-end-experiences.
- Native application design experience (iOS and Android)
- Experience working in the health insurance industry (more-specifically, within a plan administration setting)
- Experience with Conversational UX design
- Proven experience leading design strategy, design workshops and creating long-term visions
- Proven experience in leveraging qualitative and quantitative customer research and communicating insights to gain stakeholder support for designs by clearly communicating design vision and rationale
- Ability to align team members around the ideal digital experience and gain support and commitment
- Ability to easily adapt to change and respectfully challenge current state assumptions
- Ability to see ahead of current work and translate future possibilities into breakthrough design strategies
- Adaptability to work within multiple development methodologies and team structures
- Bachelor's degree in Design, User Experience, Research, Graphic Design, Information Design, Product Design, Human Factors or equivalent/relevant work experience. Masters preferred.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
