The Opportunity
AssetMark is seeking a Staff Engineer to help lead our Developer Experience team. This role will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for and owning significant platform capabilities, driving architectural decisions, and establishing technical standards that enable our entire engineering organization. You'll work on transformational initiatives including automation, deployment frameworks, and developer workflows that accelerate software delivery across the organization, while mentoring other engineers and ensuring our technology foundation scales with business growth.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Platform Strategy
- Define and drive the technical roadmap for Developer Experience and Cloud Platform Engineering initiatives
- Establish standards, patterns, and best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure automation, deployment pipelines, and developer tooling
- Lead architecture decisions for cloud-native deployment platforms and internal developer platforms
- Shape platform strategy through both written specifications and hands-on code implementation
- Drive modernization efforts across GitHub workflows, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex platform reliability, scalability, and operational issues
- Mentor engineers and help raise the overall engineering maturity of the organization
Developer Experience & Productivity:
- Design and implement scalable developer workflows that improve engineering velocity and reliability
- Lead initiatives around ephemeral test environments and self-service development infrastructure
- Improve onboarding, local development, testing, deployment, and observability experiences for engineering teams
- Partner with engineering teams to identify workflow bottlenecks and automate repetitive operational tasks
- Drive adoption of platform capabilities through documentation, enablement, technical guidance, and hands-on code implementation
- Evaluate, use and integrate AI-assisted development tooling and workflow automation opportunities
Collaboration & Enablement:
- Partner closely and collaborate with application & platform engineering, architecture, product, infrastructure, security, and operations teams
- Translate business and organizational goals into scalable technical platform capabilities
- Influence engineering direction through technical leadership and strong communication
- Participate in strategic planning and investment prioritization for engineering initiatives
- Support incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts for platform services
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Deep experience designing and operating cloud-native platforms and developer infrastructure
- Strong expertise with Azure DevOps / GitHub CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform / Ansible
- Experience with deploying apps/microservices on Kubernetes/Docker, container orchestration, and modern cloud infrastructure platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Strong understanding of software engineering lifecycle, release engineering, and DevOps principles
- Experience building scalable internal platforms, local development, and self-service engineering capabilities
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, observability, reliability engineering, and operational excellence
- Experience supporting multi-language engineering ecosystems (Java, .NET, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
- Familiarity with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps pipelines and modern source control workflows
- Experience implementing security best practices within platform engineering environments
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills with the ability to influence across teams
- Experience evaluating and integrating AI-enabled engineering productivity tooling is a plus
- Financial services or regulated industry experience preferred
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 15+ years of software/platform engineering experience with increasing technical leadership responsibilities
- Proven experience leading complex platform engineering or developer productivity initiatives
- Experience designing and operating cloud-native infrastructure at enterprise scale
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across multiple teams
- Strong hands-on engineering background with ability to contribute directly to implementation work
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments and cross-functional engineering organizations

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $175,000-$219,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
