The Staff Database Administrator works to ensure that the Autotask product provides its customers with the best user experience possible by ensuring predictability and efficiency of the SQL Server database tier.

This role collaborates with DBA, product development, and infrastructure operations staff to ensure that our software accurately stores and retrieves data.

One of the primary functions of this role will be to provide secondary support for each team member. This would include Operations, software releases, data warehousing, and patching

Requirements:

- Minimum 10 years working with SQL Server

- Hands on experience with modern versions of SQL Server database engine

- Demonstrated understanding locking, blocking, deadlocks including troubleshooting and performance tuning, monitor, and methods to employ on how to avoid them

- Demonstrated understanding of SQL Server's use of CPU, buffer cache, and I/O resources

- Demonstrated understanding of transaction isolation

- Demonstrated experience with query optimization and a variety of contention avoidance techniques

- Demonstrated experience managing columnstore and rowstore indexes

- Proficient with Powershell and scripting

- Demonstrated experience managing OLTP and OLAP workloads

- Ability to document complex tasks in a clear and concise manner

- Understanding and experience with HA solutions, specifically SQL failover clustering

- Ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot SQL agent jobs

- Experience owning and managing large projects and communicating to non-technical consumers

- Willingness to build and maintain a broad understanding of our software product, its data, and schema

- Ability to be flexible and have the desire to learn new technologies and team functions and support them. Stay educated on emerging technologies

- Analytical thinking – Proactive drive to improve team functions, automate repeatable processes, bring creative solutions to solve problems, improve existing processes

- Strong English communication skills allowing communication of complex subject matter in simple terms to mixed audiences

- Experience with change management as well as scheduling and managing maintenance windows

- Ability to support 99.99% (24x7x365) product uptime including an on-call rotation

Desirable (but not required):

- General understanding of networking, storage, DNS, and Kerberos authentication in a Windows environment

- Experience with Windows Server and domain environments

- Experience with large numbers of databases (10k+)

- Experience managing and backing up partitioned data

- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services
