As a Staff Data Engineer at Lyric, you will serve as the Snowflake subject matter expert, playing a key role in shaping our data architecture and engineering strategy. You’ll begin by understanding the current data landscape and collaborating closely with stakeholders to uncover both existing and future use cases. From there, you’ll lead the development of technical proposals and work hands-on with the team to deliver scalable, high-performance data solutions. In this foundational role, you’ll help establish Lyric’s Data Engineering practice—defining best practices, setting standards, and driving the adoption of modern tools and processes. This is a high-impact opportunity to blend strategic thinking with deep technical execution, all while influencing how data empowers decisions across the company.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the Snowflake subject matter expert, owning the design and evolution of our data platform.
- Understand and assess the current data architecture; identify opportunities for improvement and scalability.
- Partner with stakeholders across engineering, product, and analytics to gather requirements and align data needs.
- Develop and present technical proposals that support both near-term solutions and long-term growth.
- Lead hands-on development of data pipelines, modeling, and infrastructure within Snowflake and related technologies.
- Evaluate and recommend modern data tools and platforms to enhance data reliability, performance, and usability.
- Define and document best practices for data engineering, including coding standards, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Mentor data engineers and help foster a culture of high-quality data engineering and continuous learning.
- Drive adoption of new tools, frameworks, and practices across the team and broader organization.
- Contribute to the foundation of Lyric’s Data Engineering practice, helping scale it with clarity and purpose.
- Contribute to the overall Lyric’s data stewardship practice of managing and overseeing data assets to ensure they are accessible, usable, safe, and trusted, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with data governance policies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong focus on building data pipelines and working alongside application engineering teams, with programming expertise in Python, .NET, and Spark technologies
- 3+ years of experience with Snowflake data platforms, with a strong focus on data pipelines, performance tuning and database optimization techniques, demonstrated expertise in Snowflake concepts like setting up resource monitors, RBAC controls, scalable virtual warehouse, SQL performance tuning, zero copy clone, time travel, clustering and micro-partitions.
- Experience in designing and building ingestion data pipelines using Snowpipe.
- Hand on experience with building real-time continuous data streaming platforms, utilizing various modern data tooling technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Kafka, Kinesis)
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with modern data ETL/ELT and orchestration tools, i.e., DBT, Airflow, Fivetran, etc.
- Extensive SnowSQL experience in developing stored procedures, writing queries to analyze and transform data.
- Excellent presentation skills: presenting to both technical and business audiences effectively explaining technical concepts in terms of business value and impact.
***The US base salary range for this full-time position is:
$143,327.23 - $214,990.85
