The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking Sr. Writer, Global Marketing.

As the Sr. Writer, Global Marketing you will play a catalytic role in moving hearts toward joining this mission. This position isn’t just about crafting excellent copy. It’s about reshaping public imagination about justice. You will partner with regional and global teams to create messaging that’s  insight-driven, concept-led, and powered by stories-- driving experiences that stir empathy, engage audiences, and drive measurable success.

This position requires fresh creative thinking, audience awareness, and proven success in copywriting and storytelling. You'll need a robust understanding of website/digital copy that brings innovative solutions to marketing challenges.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to Global Director, Marketing Communications and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation

  • Create written content that aligns with marketing objectives and organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with marketing and design to create innovative content ideas.

  • Edit and proofread copy written by contractors and other internal producers, ensuring it meets brand standards.

  • Maintain and uphold IJM brand and copy standards

Networking & Partnership

  • Coordinating with project managers to define deliverables, give and receive feedback, and ensure project milestones are met for on-time delivery.

  • Work with the Global Brand team to review stories from the field, fact-check statistics, and ensure all stories follow brand and storytelling guidelines.

Communication

  • Elevating concerns about projects to project managers and Creative team leads

  • Discuss trade-offs when the scope of project deliverables increases

  • Responding promptly to day-to-day email, phone, and online communication

  • Communicate project priorities and needs in daily meetings with the Creative team

General Tasks

  • Participate in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.

  • Actively manage responsible project tasks within a work management software system

  • Follow-up with project managers on deliverables and coordinate further needs to complete a project

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years as a copywriter or writer in an agency or in-house creative team

  • BA/BS degree in English or Communications

  • Exceptional ability in marketing writing, storytelling and copyediting

  • Portfolio of excellent published work that demonstrates expertise, creativity and ability to write for/communicate with varying audiences

  • Ability to think conceptually and execute tactically across websites, digital products, print materials, ongoing email campaigns, and more

  • Strong writing and communication skills

*What is a statement of faith?
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM. The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
