This role is responsible for applying strong test engineering knowledge to support NPD, sustaining, and productivity designs that have moderate complexity. This role requires extensive development of new test strategies, updating analysis tools, participation in FMEAs and 8D problem solving, building processes for conducting ALT/HALT/HASS testing, outlining test automation initiatives. Must be field expert in the principles of reliability testing and have an in-depth knowledge of UL/IEC/FCC test methods and procedures. Position requires providing professional support and mentoring other TEs. In addition, this role is responsible for a detailed technical understanding of internal and external test capabilities required for Chamberlain product families. This role also may lead quality improvement or productivity projects for existing products. The position also requires building relationships with all engineering disciplines and operations, marketing, technical services, and sourcing.
We are seeking a highly skilled Sr Test Engineer to lead the test strategy for a project, ensuring the highest quality standards through structured test planning, execution, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in testing best practices, software and hardware testing methodologies, and automation experience. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, driving a test-focused mindset throughout the development lifecycle.
A successful candidate will demonstrate curiosity, attention to detail, and adaptability, with a keen eye for detecting hidden issues, questioning assumptions, and continuously exploring ways to improve test coverage and product quality.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating, maintaining, and executing test plans on hardware and software of Chamberlain products
- Estimating test effort, analyzing, and communicating test results, tracking defects, and participating in gauge R&R studies
- Participates as a key core team member on new product development teams, along with productivity and sustaining projects, attends design reviews, and day-to-day Agile scrum activities
- Works with regulatory engineers to set-up and conduct test plans for UL agency-type testing.
- Prepares and reviews test reports for projects and assists other TEs with their projects.
- Directs the operation of a variety of computer automated and manual test equipment including data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, RF chambers, acoustics chambers, EMC test equipment, electrical test instrumentation, vibration systems, and assorted measurement transducers.
- Evaluates the results of EMC testing of RF emissions, RF sensitivity, radiated and conducted immunity, and RF electrical safety evaluation.
- Leads activity in defect analysis, root cause analysis, study product functionality impact, and provides key insight of observed product performance and defects.
- Works with Manager to establish new test methodologies and provide framework for custom test fixture design and automation methods
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
- Test Strategy & Planning: Define and implement the overall test strategy (EE.ME, SW) for the project, ensuring alignment with industry best practices (ISTQB, Agile, etc.).
- Test Process Management: Establish and enforce test processes, including test case design, test execution, defect tracking, and reporting.
- Risk-Based Testing: Conduct risk assessments and develop test plans based on risk impact to prioritize critical areas.
- Collaboration: Work closely with development, product management, and quality teams to define test requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Defect Management: Establish a structured defect reporting and tracking process, ensuring defects are prioritized and resolved efficiently.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience strongly preferred; or minimum of nine (9) years of job-related experience as defined in the Essential Duties & Responsibilities; an advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience; Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification strongly preferred; or commitment to obtain certification within one (1) year of date of hire or promotion.
- 5+ years of job-related experience with Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Able to travel up to 10% - domestically and internationally
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred Job Requirements:
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification; Scrum Master Certification (PSM1); ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
- LIMS software experience; SAP ERP software experience; Experience with product safety standards for Chamberlain products like UL325, UL191, and IEC60335.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work within cross-functional teams to facilitate the creation of electro-mechanical products; analytical skills to support design creation of electro-mechanical systems by completing calculations involving statics, confidence and reliability testing, technical writing, and laying out Gantt and flow charts; conducting Anova GRR; good presentation skills; strong analytical skills; familiarity with general MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Visio, and Project
The pay range of pay for this position is $81,500 - 155,225; base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to base pay, also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). This position is eligible for participation in a short-term incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
