The Senior Tax Compliance Analyst will be responsible for acquiring and analyzing compliance rules and regulations necessary to pay and file payroll taxes timely and accurately. The research includes, but is not limited to, reviewing existing reports, creating new reports, working with agencies to get approval for future periods, and analyzing issues. This position requires an experienced payroll tax professional with expertise in research and strong analytical skills as well as good software technical skills to support the development, quality assurance and product support teams.

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities

  • Execute detailed plans for regular tax compliance review, evaluation and modifications throughout the year (e.g. annual and/or periodic tax form modifications)

  • Follow a documented path to research upcoming changes to tax laws and regulations, interface with taxing agencies and update tracking mechanisms accurately and timely

  • Work closely with a team of software developers to provide compliance research information, data, and specifications to insure the accurate integration of rules into effective and accurate use in the software

  • Help drive the testing process to ensure accurate information in current and planned releases of compliance regulations

  • Design and review new and existing reports using Crystal Reports aligned with internal and agency specifications

  • Create packets of sample forms to submit to agencies for future period approvals

  • Provide expertise in researching issues related to customer questions and notices from agencies/jurisdictions, and ensure that the software remains compliant

  • Partner with business operations to analyze and resolve system/filing issues

  • Perform other compliance related research, data collection, specification/procedure reviews as directed by the department

  • Identify and help implement process improvement opportunities

Competencies

  • Expertise in researching, analyzing, and interpreting payroll tax rules and regulations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Capacity to explain technical tax information to non-tax individuals

  • Ability to excel in fast-paced environment with competing priorities

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to see the big picture while remaining detail oriented

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This role does not have supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of payroll and/or payroll tax experience

  • 7+ years of strong working knowledge of payroll tax rules and requirements

  • Fluent using Microsoft Excel, examples: open/save CSV files, manipulate large data sets, add formulas

Preferred Skills

  • Expertise in researching, analyzing, and interpreting payroll tax rules and regulations

  • Ability to read and interpret tax specifications

  • Competency in documenting and explaining tax law

  • 5+ years of experience with TaxEx or a third party payroll tax administrator

  • 3+ years of experience with Crystal Reports, SQL Server Report Services, or similar report generation tool

  • Demonstrated experience researching through personal or phone interviews and web/document reviews
