About the Team/Role

The Senior Staff UI Developer will serve as a key technical leader responsible for the architecture, development, and consistency of the user interface for the mission-critical Digital Credit Application (DCA).
This role is paramount to the entire Credit Application customer journey, focusing on enhancing the application steps required before a credit decision (adjudication) is made. The developer will ensure the application is seamless, mobile-first, and highly performant across all devices, directly addressing customer pain points that cause application abandonment.
The developer will proactively solve complex UI/UX challenges, such as integrating features across multiple WEX Lines of Business (LOBs)—including North America Mobility (NAM), Over-the-Road (OTR), and Customer Payment Solutions (CPS)—and resolving inconsistencies arising from conflicting design flows. This position requires a deep commitment to promoting frontend code quality, technical best practices, and transforming the DCA into a unified, secure, and modern digital platform.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead and drive the technical development and architecture of the next-generation digital credit application UI, ensuring its functional richness, reliability, and flexibility.

  • Help design the UI architecture and lead the implementation of complex, multi-step user flows.

  • Challenge the status quo and drive for better technical solutions to effectively serve the broad business needs of the organization.

  • Closely partner with senior engineers and product managers across the organization to deeply understand complex business needs and jointly develop technical solutions.

  • Partner closely with the Information Security team to ensure security and privacy are implemented via secure coding practices and access controls.

  • Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute front-end roadmaps, project plans, and commitments.

  • Set a high technical bar, and provide guidance and mentorship to engineering teams on front-end principles and best practices.

  • Advise Senior Leadership on highly complex situations impacting the UI platform and lead technical initiatives, driving high-quality results.

Experience you’ll bring

  • A technically deep and innovative Software Engineer able to act and deliver to the business needs.

  • Have 15+ years of progressive software design and development experience at scale, with proven tenure in a Principal or Senior Staff (L5)-level role.

  • Strong software development skills in React (preferred) or Angular/Vue and TypeScript.

  • Deep experience architecting, developing, and deploying large-scale, mission-critical applications, including expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment strategies.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing Micro Front-End architectures to enable team autonomy and application scalability.

  • Demonstrated mastery of modern UI development trends, including performance optimization (e.g., Core Web Vitals), advanced accessibility standards (WCAG), modern build tools, and innovative compiler techniques.

  • Mandatory experience working closely with UX and Product design teams to translate wireframes, user research, and complex user flows into robust, reusable technical components.

  • Critical leadership experience in mentoring senior and mid-level engineers, defining technical roadmaps, and driving architectural consensus across multiple teams.

  • Expertise in consuming and integrating with backend services using modern data fetching techniques, specifically GraphQL and REST APIs.

  • Holds strong engineering principles, including a focus on comprehensive unit and integration testing, code automation, and quality gates.

  • Bonus/Preferred: Experience in building highly secure, public and customer-facing applications.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
