About the Role

Commure, a fast-growing healthcare technology (SaaS) company, is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our lean, high-impact Legal & Compliance team. Reporting to the VP, Deputy General Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting Commure’s fast-paced legal team, focused on commercial contracts, employment law and business immigration compliance, and litigation support.  You will also manage the company's insurance program and assist with ad hoc matters. The ideal candidate has strong transactional experience and is comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. As Commure scales, this position offers significant opportunities to take ownership of specific legal programs and expand your responsibilities within the department.

What You’ll Do

  • HR Compliance Support:  Monitor, track, and report on trends and developments in state and federal employment and immigration laws; partner with People and Recruiting Teams to create, review, and update internal guidance and form templates; be first point of escalation for ad hoc requests from People and Recruiting Teams re: HR compliance issues.

  • Insurance Program & Risk Management: Be the owner and subject matter expert on the Company’s multi-entity insurance portfolio; coordinate annual renewal process and mid-term policy changes; maintaining internal documentation repository and respond to requests for COIs; and review and negotiate contractual insurance obligations in customer and vendor contracts to align with insurance program policy coverages and limits. 

  • Commercial Contracts Support:  Provide ad hoc support to the commercial legal team on negotiation and execution of routine contracts such as NDAs, BAAs etc. Work with revenue generating or G&A functions on various commercial legal projects as needed.

  • Litigation Support:  Track and support disputes and litigation including customer collection actions, commercial contract disputes, and employment related claims, including receiving and processing service of lawsuits and disputes; managing litigation hold process; collecting responsive information, liaising with outside counsel to connect with internal personnel and obtain information in response to legal inquiries.

  • Conduct research on wide variety of issues relevant to the company’s commercial and business activities

  • Respond to ad hoc requests and inquiries from business partners

  • Support the legal team on special projects 

What You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies from a paralegal program that is either ABA approved or both regionally accredited and an Institutional Member of AAfPE, OR, a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a paralegal certificate from a paralegal program that is either ABA approved or both regionally accredited and an Institutional Member of AAfPE. Current paralegal certification from NALA or NFPA is a plus.

  • Minimum 10 years’ Paralegal experience working at a law firm or in-house legal department, ideally in commercial transactions and litigation; healthcare technology industry experience is a plus.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ in-house experience working cross-functionally to drive projects and transactions to completion

  • Familiar with US labor and employment law and employer compliance obligations, (e.g. FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, HIPAA, NLRA, EEOC, DOL, NLRB, OSHA, state and federal payroll tax registrations, unemployment insurance and claims, worker’s comp)

  • Experience managing multi-entity insurance portfolio ensuring adequate risk mitigation balanced with costs; policy applications and renewals, annual audits and true-up; employee WC classifications; COIs and endorsements; reviewing and negotiation contractual insurance requirements and language

  • Experience reviewing and assisting with execution of commercial contracts.

  • Enthusiastic and proactive self-starter with strong sense of ownership of role and responsibilities

  • Have meticulous attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and an effective and collaborative communication style

  • Strong team player, skilled in prioritizing and organizing work and managing multiple competing priorities effectively in a high-volume, results-driven environment.

  • Enjoy being continually challenged and can demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations

  • Experience leveraging technology and tooling to drive efficiencies and amplify impact, including MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat

  • Familiar with US business immigration and international employment laws and policies

  • Experience implementing and managing CLM systems; Lexion, LinkSquares, and Salesforce experience a plus
