The Role:
VSEE (Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering) supports GM's vision by providing the high quality hardware and software architectures, designs, and validation efforts to support our SDV - Software Defined Vehicle future. We are engaged, inclusive, and innovative teams that adapt to challenges and work together to enable cutting edge products and services to get to our customers.
GM is seeking a Senior Manager - VSEE Quality to lead the quality strategy and execution for all VSEE organizations. This role has a strong focus on quality ownership and cross functional relationships to strengthen Software and Services integration into GM.
The required candidate brings deep technical quality expertise and proven leadership experience, with a strong track record in leading Quality, SMT or launch activities across electrical, mechanical, software and wireless domains. This is a highly collaborative role that partners closely with Central Quality, Software, CCA, Cost Recovery, Quality Chain, Validation, Manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers and vehicle teams to ensure quality is the priority for the vehicle and customer.
What You'll Do:
  • Strategic and Innovative Planning: Define the long-term vision and forecasting quality targets for hardware and software SMTs driving Director level visibility of forecasting and targets.
  • Quality Representation for VSEE to GM Enterprise: Representing VSEE quality to be a clear single point owner for quality chain and quality, reliability and durability to product, program teams, central quality etc.
  • Meeting Quality Targets: Proactivity communicating and delivering scorecard activity to meet SMT targets (initiatives include part monitor, part restrictions, ...).
  • Deep insight into quality chain and supplier quality activities: explore manufacturing operations and new innovative ways to look our quality in advance to issues happening for new technology (i.e. proactively ensuring SDV to be better than what we did with VIP).
  • Electrical Hardware Design and Validation: Lead the quality chain activities driving for higher quality execution (i.e. component tracker, in house design and development first time documentation) - Oversee the full development cycle from concept through production from a quality perspective.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of quality engineers. Build a culture of excellence, technical depth, and continuous learning. Oversee program execution, resource planning, and budget management.
  • Technology, Innovation and Analytics: Utilize current and future technologies and techniques (e.g. connected vehicle, OnStar, vehicle data crowd sourcing, big data, diagnostics, prognostics, AI ...) to early predict quality performance to avoid/minimize quality issues and drive required sustainable change w/ the greatest business impact.
  • Profitability: Lead development of strategy and execution of VSEE HW and SW cost reduction/avoidance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Central Quality, CCA, product managers, SMT DREs engineers, purchasing, suppliers and manufacturing to develop clear plans to meet quality targets.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Quality and/or SMT experience, including full product lifecycle ownership and leadership of complex programs.
  • Proficient in product execution, quality, reliability, durability and quality chain execution through experience including tool applications to automate data analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams, communicate complex ideas clearly, and drive alignment across stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and evolving technologies.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree in a related engineering or technical discipline
  • 20+ years of hands-on experience in Quality and/or SMT experience, including full product lifecycle ownership and leadership of complex programs.
  • Experience leading global teams or international programs
  • Strong market awareness and ability to shape product and technology direction through external trends and insights.
  • Leverages enterprise-level business acumen to drive organizational success
  • Demonstrated ability to: achieve results through effective teamwork, lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion, and manage and measure work through metrics, data, and results
  • Experience managing a global team that is geographically dispersed
  • Experience with field performance, including dealership experience, warranty claims process and customer service solutions
  • Working knowledge of quality and/or embedded controls development tool set - (e.g. Jira/Jama, Git ecosystem, Component Tracker, etc).
