Primary Purpose
The ADUSA Compliance & Ethics Lead provides strategic leadership in regulatory compliance, risk management, and ethical business practices at Ahold Delhaize USA and its local brands to support business strategies and initiatives. The companies include two service companies and five grocery retailers (Food Lion, The Giant Company, Giant Food, Hannaford and Stop & Shop) in 18 states and the District of Columbia.
This leader will report to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel for ADUSA Legal Affairs and will work collaboratively and with minimal supervision as part of a fast-paced and specialized functional team. This role is accountable for the development, implementation, and oversight of a US compliance program designed to build transparency and oversight for compliance initiatives and support business adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the incumbent collaborates cross‑functionally with AD Group, ADUSA functional areas and U.S. Brands to cultivate a consistent, enterprise‑wide compliance culture, enhance risk visibility, and support effective remediation. The Compliance & Ethics Lead ensures that compliance expectations are clearly articulated, operationalized, and embedded within business processes, enabling the organization to proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risk.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME, & Hyattsville, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Own the strategic leadership and direction for the Compliance & Ethics team to ensure alignment with the Company's overarching goals and objectives.
- Lead the strategy, development, and continuous enhancement of a US compliance framework, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory requirements and recognized industry standards.
- Lead the development and continuous enhancement of compliance practices to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Support brand training programs to build compliance culture.
- Collaborate with the Legal Department and Government Affairs to monitor evolving federal, state, and local laws and regulations, evaluate organizational and operational impacts, and clearly communicate required compliance actions and updates to key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with US legal team to triage and resolve routine or non‑legal matters by Compliance team.
- Represent the Compliance function in Compliance Council sessions and enterprise‑wide meetings, ensuring alignment, visibility, and effective cross‑functional collaboration.
- Partner on cross‑functional projects and reviews with key functional areas, including Risk & Controls and Internal Audit, to strengthen operational effectiveness and drive effective risk remediation.
- Partner with AD Group Compliance and Ethics team to support execution of group C&E initiatives, including annual Code of Ethics training, Speak Up process, ethics and compliance related reporting, and other communication and training initiatives.
- Participate in the Ethics Leadership Network.
- Support the Speak Up Program (whistle‑blower hotline) in ADUSA by comprehensive monitoring and reporting and ensuring timely and effective issue resolution.
- Lead the secure handling-and, if necessary, the investigation-of potential ethics or compliance violations that may involve confidential and highly sensitive company information, mitigating the risk of significant reputational, financial and operational consequences.
- Lead compliance reporting to ensure clear visibility into emerging and existing risks, enabling informed decision‑making and proactive mitigation.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to identify opportunities for shared tools and practices in the US to enhance visibility and effectiveness of compliance programs.
- Lead training sessions to reinforce compliance and ethics standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Compliance, Risk Management, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in compliance, ethics, risk management, internal audit, or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to develop relationships that influence at the executive level.
- Demonstrated experience leading compliance programs or major compliance initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance frameworks, and risk management practices.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
