Position SummaryThe Sr Category Manager, Indirect Procurement will lead the sourcing, negotiation, and management of technology-related goods and services—including hardware, software, cloud solutions, telecom, and IT services. This role requires a highly skilled, adaptable, and motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering measurable value to the organization. Information Technology will manage assigned categories, suppliers, and spend to meet internal stakeholder needs. Value of spend managed typically ranges from $100M–$150M and/or includes a large number of suppliers (200+). Utilizing a structured sourcing process, this position handles category sourcing, contract negotiations, and seeks opportunities for strategic partnerships to enable growth and ensure continuity of business. The individual brings technical direction, advice, and counsel to a wide array of procurement issues, operating effectively in fast-changing IT landscapes.

Compensation

  • Targeting $129,000 base, with flexibility for strong Senior Manager–level candidates.

Additional Priorities from Hiring Manager

  • Hands-on experience negotiating technology contracts, including major software and hardware agreements, with strong understanding of software pricing structures.
  • Strong post-award contract management skills, especially usage monitoring (e.g., '50k licenses purchased, only 30k used').
  • Experience managing SLAs, tracking performance, and holding vendors accountable.
  • Strong business-partnering capability with IT leadership—particularly presenting spend insights and subcategory opportunities.
  • A ‘builder’ mindset: able to create structure with limited resources, operate in ambiguity, and thrive through change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic approaches for indirect procurement categories across IT Shared Services.
  • Build category strategies using business needs, market insights, spend baselines, and benchmarking.
  • Research, select, develop, and maintain sources of supply ensuring optimal quality, service, and cost.
  • Develop negotiation strategies and successfully lead technology contract negotiations.
  • Monitor contract usage and vendor adherence and implement cost optimization improvements.
  • Manage post-award performance including license usage vs. purchase volume.
  • Track SLA performance and escalate gaps with suppliers.
  • Lead risk assessments and continuity planning for technology categories.
  • Support supplier network health and enable long-term partnership resilience.
  • Conduct annual supplier business reviews.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve cost, supply continuity, risk, and innovation.
  • Provide input on contracts (terms, indemnification, IP, etc.).
  • Forecast pricing and availability for IT categories and communication insights to leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and government regulations.
  • Promote a collaborative, respectful environment and communicate clearly and transparently.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline
  • 7+ years of procurement experience with demonstrated expertise in technology categories.
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, financial acumen, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in lean, evolving environments undergoing change.
  • Industry-agnostic; consulting backgrounds welcome.

  • Very strong negotiation skills.
  • Experience in strategic sourcing of indirect materials and IT/IT Professional Services.
  • Commercial awareness beyond procurement.
  • Strong quantitative, cost modeling, and data analysis skills.
  • Strong supplier relationship management skills.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management abilities.
  • Change agent capable of influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Financial acumen including TCO and business case development.
  • Builder mindset and ability to operate in ambiguity.

Compensation
