We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Ignition Software Engineer to design, develop, and support industrial automation solutions using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform. This role focuses on hands-on development, implementation, and optimization of SCADA, HMI, and IIoT systems, working closely with engineering and IT teams to deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable automation projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Ignition, a solid background in industrial control systems, and a good understanding of IT security practices. You will contribute to project delivery, standardization, and continuous improvement, collaborating with cross-functional teams and supporting best practices in automation.
- Develop, configure, and deploy Ignition-based SCADA/HMI systems for industrial automation projects.
- Build and maintain standardized Ignition templates, UDTs, and scripting solutions to ensure consistency and reusability.
- Implement and support secure integration with enterprise systems, databases, and cloud platforms.
- Apply role-based access control (RBAC), secure authentication (e.g., SSO, LDAP), and encrypted communications (SSL/TLS) as directed.
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure system reliability and scalability.
- Stay current with Ignition platform updates and new modules; recommend improvements to existing systems.
- Document technical solutions, configurations, and procedures for ongoing support and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, IT, and cybersecurity teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
- Support disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and system maintenance activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in industrial automation, with at least 2 years focused on hands-on Ignition platform development.
- Inductive Automation Ignition Core Certification (Perspective).
- Proficiency in Python (Jython) scripting within Ignition.
- Experience with SQL databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres).
- Familiarity with Perspective & web basics (HTML/CSS/JS).
- Understanding of communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, API’s, SSL/TCP).
- Solid knowledge of network security, firewalls, VLANs, and secure data transmission in OT environments.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Certifications (Preferred but not required):
- Inductive Automation Ignition Gold Certification (Perspective).
- ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certification.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure IoT Developer or AWS IoT Specialty.
- Experience with regulated industries (e.g., food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, energy).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and version control (e.g., Git).
- Experience with cloud integration (Azure IoT, AWS Greengrass).
- Linux administration (RHEL).
- Exposure to Ignition SDK & module development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum-based project delivery.
- Strongly Preferred:
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration for deploying and managing Ignition environments.
- Experience with enterprise gateway networks and redundant architectures for multi-site deployments.
The base salary range for this role is $87,600 to $131,300. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
