The Sr. Engineer on the DevOps team is responsible for industrializing the design and implementation of Inmar’s proprietary applications by working with internal technical and business partners to gather requirements, prototype, architect, implement/update solutions, build and execute test plans, perform quality reviews, manage operations, and triage and fix operational issues.
A DevOps Engineer must be able to adjust to constant business change, such as new requirements, evolving goals and strategies, and emerging technologies, while communicating collaboratively at the highest technical levels with development teams, outside vendors, and across any level the business team.
As a senior member of this team, the incumbent will work on the most complex, cutting edge platforms and be viewed as a SME often providing assistance to more junior members of the team.
  • Primary Accountabilities: 

    • Work on complex, major or highly visible tasks in support of multiple projects that require multiple areas of expertise. 

    • Work as a project team member or as a project lead; often on projects that may span a broad range of applications.

    • Participate and/or lead in project planning processes.

    • Create and share development estimates and operational requirements to enable accurate planning with realistic timelines.

    • Serve as a liaison between client partners, Inmar and vendors in coordination with project managers to provide technical solutions that address user needs.

    • Write and communicate business requirements and functional specifications for the implementation of client solutions.

    • Work closely with architects to ensure all systems are in line with Inmar’s long-term strategy.  

    • Create and review technical design specifications.

    • Integrate solutions with other applications and platforms outside the framework.

    • Translate business and technical requirements into test cases, test scenarios and scripts.

    • Develop and/or implement reusable components.

    • Assist with the identification, creation, and maintenance of test data.

    • Develop interface stubs and simulators, as needed.

    • Code and document custom test automation frameworks.  

    • Maintain new and existing object reference files.

    • Perform script maintenance and updates due to changes.

    • Set up and maintain the test environments for both manual and automated testing and address issues.

    • Perform ongoing routine application maintenance tasks.  

    • Assist in establishing requirements, methods and procedures for routine maintenance.

    • May assist in defining DevOps and quality guidelines and standards; adhere to standards and procedures.

    • Check for compliance with all standards, policies and procedures.

    • Document functions and changes to new or modified modules and test activities/results.

    • Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation for systems.

    • Build automated deployments using configuration management technology

    • Document and complete knowledge transfer to production support.

    • Work with Release Management to ensure modules are production ready.  

    • Create release notes, deployment plans, etc.

    • Verify the functionality of components and services and ensure deployment meets client's expectations.

    • Assist in production support.

    • Troubleshoot existing information systems to identify errors or deficiencies and develop solutions.

    • Work with vendors to resolve problems and develop solutions.

    • Evaluate vendor solutions to ensure compliance with requirements and cost effectiveness.

    • Participate in the development of contingency plans, including reliable backup and restore procedures, and disaster recovery both internally and with service providers. 

    • Evaluate new application packages and tools and perform research on best practices.

    • May prepare and present formal training to IT staff, as needed.

    • Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to team members. 

    • Provide technical guidance or system process expertise.

    • Develop reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.

  • Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in a related technical field,

    • 10+ years related work experience in DevOps engineering

    • Or any equivalent combination of experience and training/certification in platform maintenance and development

    • Strong experience with Linux systems engineering (config, design, security), with particular focus on commands and scripting

    • Experience with complex and distributed systems over a range of technologies

    • Ability to adapt to various tools, technologies, and languages

    • Experience configuring and managing infrastructure components, particularly with IaC solutions

    • Awareness of Information Security protocols

    • Ability to communicate highly complex and technical information to non-technical stakeholders

  • Required Technical Skills:

    • Expert-level knowledge in creating containers, and administering and managing  container orchestration technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)  

    • Infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform, OpenTofu, etc.)

    • Cloud technology (public and/or private) (Openstack, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)

  • Desirable Technical Skills:

    • Configuration Management (Ansible, puppet, chef, salt)

    • Scripting languages (bash, Python)

    • Networking knowledge

    • Security knowledge
