Xylem is hiring a Sr. Director, Vertical Markets!

The Sr. Director, Vertical Markets – Global WSS is responsible for developing and executing the global vertical market strategy across Xylem's Water Solutions & Services (WSS) business. This role is accountable for driving growth, expanding customer penetration, and enabling consistent, profitable global expansion across multiple verticals. By leveraging WSS capabilities, market insights, and customer-focused strategies, the leader ensures strong alignment between business priorities and market opportunities. This position also provides leadership to all Vertical Market Directors globally and supports a large, diversified multi-vertical revenue portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Growth

  • Develop, lead, and direct a targeted global go‑to‑market strategy to maximize profitable revenue across all Xylem WSS verticals.
  • Create strategic growth plans focused on customer expansion, deeper vertical penetration, and strengthened market presence.
  • Assess global market size, growth opportunities, and profitability to proactively shape the strategic direction of vertical markets.
  • Own the business plan for international growth of key customer accounts, ensuring alignment with global objectives.

Vertical Market Development

  • Extend the successful and profitable North America business model into international regions.
  • Protect and strengthen core WSS business in North America while expanding solutions, services, and customer relationships globally.
  • Leverage vertical insights, competitive intelligence, and customer priorities to position WSS for global competitive advantage.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, and the broader Xylem WSS organization to deliver integrated customer-focused solutions.
  • Drive global revenue synergies and integrated solution offerings across verticals.
  • Ensure alignment of global initiatives and service delivery with strategic customer needs and vertical market expectations.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop the global Vertical Market Directors and their teams (approx. 15 SME professional employees).
  • Create a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, measurable outcomes, and customer excellence.
  • Provide clear direction and prioritization to ensure consistent global execution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in vertical market strategy, commercial leadership, business development, or general management, preferably in water, industrial, environmental, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Proven success developing and executing global go-to-market strategies that drive profitable revenue growth and deeper customer penetration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading international expansion initiatives and scaling successful regional business models globally.
  • Strong track record of managing large, complex, multi-vertical revenue portfolios and delivering measurable financial and operational results.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Deep understanding of customer segmentation, strategic account growth, competitive analysis, and market development.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including the ability to assess market opportunity, profitability, and investment priorities.
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across Sales, Marketing, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and executive presentation skills.
  • Customer-centric mindset with the ability to translate market insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Experience in water, industrial, environmental, infrastructure, or related sectors preferred.
  • Ability to travel globally as needed.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $175K to $250K plus bonus.   Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.  At Xylem we offer competitive compensation with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, and Vision plans, as well as 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.
