The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

We are seeking an Lead Software Engineer - Mgr within the Engineering Solutions organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape.
In this role, we will look for you to:
• Drive Innovation: Undertake advanced engineering tasks from start to finish, pushing the boundaries of technology.
• Leadership Excellence: Oversee the development and deliverables of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
• Strategic Vision: Strategize and execute at a high level, guiding and influencing resources and outcomes to achieve impactful results.
• Complex Problem Solving: Lead the design, development, and implementation of highly complex, undefined problems that extend beyond team boundaries.
• Set Standards: Establish best practices and standards in software engineering, ensuring quality and consistency across projects.
• AI Platform Ownership: Lead the ownership and advancement of an AI-powered platform designed for the seamless integration and exposure of services from internal providers such as End-user, Hosting, DevOps, Enterprise Architecture, and Cyber Security.
• Expand Horizons: Enhance the guardrails platform capabilities to integrate and support additional a wider array of cloud providers and SaaS platforms, broadening our overall technological reach.
• API Development: Craft robust platform APIs that drive connectivity and functionality.
• IaC Governance: Govern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices to ensure efficient and secure deployment processes, paving the way for future innovations.What Will You Do?
- Lead a team of Software Engineers while exemplifying Travelers'leadership behaviors.
- Complete expert engineering tasks for impactful and high-visibility initiatives.
- Build and develop discipline-specific capabilities across multiple teams, equipping individuals with the skills, tools, and standard approaches to improve the overall quality of engineering practices and skill sets.
- Assess skill gaps and develop mitigation efforts , including training needs.
- Align work with business and engineering priorities to realize meaningful impact.
- Build collaborative relationships with key leaders and peers across the organization (i. e. , Team Leaders, CoEs Centers of Excellence) to ensure the best use of overall resources.
- Develop a robust talent pipeline, providing unique opportunities and challenges to each team member to enrich development.
- Provide technical leadership, foster a team environment, and offer mentorship and feedback to technical resources.
- Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned efforts.
- May assist as an individual contributor to an Agile Product Team (e. g. , developing solutions to achieve defined business outcomes) in addition to leading a team.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Seven years of programming/development experience plus two years of prior technical leadership experience.
- Advanced delivery skills , including the ability to assess the effectiveness of software design strategies and methodologies across an organization.
- Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to leverage expertise to improve company - level capabilities within the domain.
- Strong problem solving skills, creating architecture robust against single points of failure and identifying areas of need proactively.
- Strong communication skills, able to describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand and document effectively.
- Advanced leadership skills, leveraging internal networks across engineering and engaging with other leaders to solve problems and develop strong credibility throughout the company.
- Experience with agentic architecture and cloud-native technologies, ideally using AWS, Python, NodeJS, Java and Kubernetes.
- Some exposure to dapr.io
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience.
- Five years of programming/development experience.
- One year of experience of technical leadership.
