Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Flywire is seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Credit Risk to build and lead our global credit risk function. This leader will be responsible for developing and executing the company’s credit risk management strategy across a broad spectrum of counterparties—including clients, banking partners, and other critical vendors. The ideal candidate brings strong risk judgment, leadership experience, and a proven ability to influence cross-functional teams while scaling credit processes that protect the company from financial loss and reputational harm, protecting the company’s financial resilience while enabling responsible growth across markets and business lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Credit Risk

    • Own and refine the credit policy framework for onboarding and ongoing monitoring of clients, ensuring consistent and scalable risk practices

    • Assess creditworthiness of clients using financial analysis, payment trends, sector data, and behavioral insights

    • Design and oversee automated and manual credit limits, payment terms, and exception processes

    • Partner with Sales, Finance, and Legal to structure deals that appropriately balance risk and growth

    • Monitor concentration risk and exposure by geography, segment, or industry vertical

    • Establish early warning indicators and proactively manage deteriorating credit situations

  • Banking Partner & Vendor Credit Risk

    • Lead the credit risk assessment process for current and prospective banking partners, payout processors, FX providers, and other critical vendors

    • Collaborate with Treasury and Compliance to evaluate financial health, operational performance, and counterparty default risk

    • Develop a tiered monitoring approach based on materiality and interdependency of vendor relationships

    • Support contingency planning by flagging systemic exposures and coordinating with BCP/DR teams as needed

  • Policy, Governance, and Reporting

    • Act as key voice in Enterprise Risk Committee and senior management risk forums

    • Define credit risk appetite and tolerance thresholds in coordination with executive leadership

    • Identify KPI’s and build reporting infrastructure related to the above responsibilities

    • Deliver regular reporting to executives and the Board on liquidity risk and portfolio credit risk KPIs, concentrations, emerging trends, mitigations

    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, external audit expectations, and applicable global/local financial regulations

  • Liquidity & Economic Risk Management

    • Ensure Flywire’s balance sheet is fortified for micro and macro economic impacts; help define and manage interest rate and other financial risks on the balance sheet; recommend and execute strategies to manage such risks

    • Manage statement of cash flows and balance sheet forecasting infrastructure

    • Quantify impact of business strategies, M&A, and shareholder return, and other corporate actions on long term liquidity, financing needs, and credit ratings implications

    • Advise management on optimal capital structure and capital allocation strategies and related financing options

    • Maintain rating agency relationships through internal rating modeling and agency communications

  • Leadership & Systems

    • Build and lead a high-performing Credit Risk team, providing coaching, direction, and performance management; foster a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement

    • Evaluate and implement tools for credit scoring, monitoring, and risk data visualization

    • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to embed credit decisioning into platform workflows

    • Foster a risk-aware culture while enabling business innovation and velocity

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to Flywire’s leadership team on risk-related matters.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in Credit Risk and Corporate Finance, with at least 5 in a leadership capacity

  • Deep understanding of credit risk management, financial statement analysis, and commercial deal structuring

  • Expert in building and running complex financial models

  • Experience with fintech, payments, financial institutions, or marketplaces strongly preferred

  • Track record of managing credit exposure across client, banking, and partner/vendor relationships

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment

  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and risk judgment skills

  • CFA, FRM a plus
