Provide senior-level administration and sustainment for GEOMAP databases: ensure availability, performance, security, backups/recovery, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, change implementation, and documentation across dev/test/staging/production while collaborating with software, cloud, DevSecOps, testing, and support teams.
The Senior Database Administrator will provide senior-level database administration and sustainment support for the GEOMAP platform and associated mission systems. This role is responsible for maintaining database availability, performance, integrity, security, and recoverability across development, test, staging, and production environments. The Database Administrator will support day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, patching, monitoring, backup and recovery, and database change implementation while working closely with software, cloud, DevSecOps, testing, and production support teams.

Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize enterprise database environments supporting GEOMAP applications and services.
- Ensure database availability, integrity, performance, and reliability across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues involving performance, access, replication, connectivity, storage, and application integration.
- Execute and maintain backup, recovery, restore, and disaster recovery procedures for mission-critical database systems.
- Support implementation of database changes, schema updates, data refreshes, and environment synchronization activities.
- Monitor database health, capacity, and usage trends and recommend improvements to support performance and sustainment objectives.
- Review and implement database security controls including account management, permissions, auditing, encryption, and vulnerability remediation.
- Collaborate with software developers, cloud engineers, DevSecOps personnel, testers, and help desk or production support staff to resolve issues and support releases.
- Maintain database documentation including procedures, configurations, recovery plans, support guides, and operational runbooks.
- Support compliance with configuration management, cybersecurity, and operational standards applicable to secure mission systems.
- Provide senior technical support for high-priority incidents, sustainment actions, and special database-related efforts as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for education where appropriate.
- 8+ years of experience in database administration, database operations, or related technical roles.
- Experience administering enterprise database platforms such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar technologies.
- Experience with database monitoring, performance tuning, backup and recovery, patching, and production troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting secure enterprise or mission-critical systems in production environments.
- Experience working across development, testing, and production support teams in Agile or DevSecOps delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of database security, user access controls, auditing, and data protection practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced DoD mission environment.
Preferred
- Experience supporting AWS-hosted or cloud-based database environments.
- Experience supporting geospatial data environments, GIS platforms, or Esri-related systems.
- Experience with replication, high availability, disaster recovery, and continuity planning for enterprise databases.
- Familiarity with RMF, STIGs, vulnerability remediation, and secure system hardening practices.
- Relevant database, cloud, or cybersecurity certifications preferred.
