Our Middle & Large Commercial Actuarial department is forming a new team focused on account solutions. This team will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our actuarial capabilities. The Account Solutions team takes a holistic approach across all lines of business on the account. We will work closely with Product, Underwriting, and Line of Business (LOB) actuarial teams to recommend, implement, and monitor new business and renewal pricing strategies. Additionally, we will engage in ad hoc analyses to support the department's objectives. At our company, we believe in fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support actuarial analysis and reporting.
  • Develop and implement new tools and processes to enhance and automate our data capabilities.
  • Analyze complex data sets to identify trends and insights that inform pricing strategies.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity across various data sources and platforms.
  • Continuously monitor and improve existing data processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Line of Business (LOB) teams to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of programming experience in a business setting
  • Experience in Python and SQL 
  • Experience in ingesting data from a variety of structures including relational databases, Hadoop/Spark, cloud data sources, XML, JSON
  • Experience in Unix and Git 
  • Experience in Automation tools (AWS Step Function, Airflow, etc.) 
  • Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams 
  • Able to translate complex technical topics into business solutions and strategies

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

  • Bachelor’s in related discipline or 5+ years of equivalent experience in relevant engineering roles
  • Experience in the insurance industry
  • Experience with agile software development is strongly preferred
  • Exposure to AWS Services (i.e. S3, EMR, Sagemaker, AWS batch etc)
  • Exposure to Cloud data warehouses, automation, and data pipelines (i.e. Snowflake, Redshift)
  • GenAI Experience (Prompt engineering, RAG, LLM)

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$117,200 - $175,800
