We are seeking a Senior Communications Manager to elevate 1Password's global visibility and reputation as a cybersecurity leader. In this role, you will increase awareness of 1Password's Extended Access Management platform and establish category leadership through driving media relations, contributed content, event participation, speaking engagements, and rapid response programs. You will work closely with 1Password cybersecurity thought leaders and executive spokespeople to shape narratives that help 1Password lead the next major shift in enterprise security.
Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, this is a remote role within the US or Canada.
What we're looking for:
- Proven background in the field: 6+ years of experience in communications, public/media relations or related field.
- Deep expertise in enterprise security: A comprehensive understanding of the cybersecurity landscape, including emerging threats, industry trends, and technologies.
- Established media relationships: Strong, existing connections with key security media outlets and influencers to effectively disseminate 1Password's messaging.
- Strategic communication skills: Proven ability to develop and execute communication strategies that align with business objectives and resonate with target audiences.
- Executive thought leadership platform development: Experience working closely with executive spokespeople to craft and deliver breakthrough cybersecurity narratives.
- Exceptional messaging, storytelling, and writing skills: Ability to translate technical cybersecurity concepts into compelling messages, narratives, and content across a variety of formats.
- Crisis communications: Experience managing sensitive cybersecurity-related incidents from a media relations perspective.
- Collaborative approach: Experience working cross-functionally across marketing organizations to drive integrated awareness programs.
- Adaptability and responsiveness: Ability to swiftly respond to industry developments and position 1Password appropriately in the media landscape.
- Self-starter: Thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, embracing ambiguity and proactively identifies opportunities to make a significant impact.
- Excellent prioritization skills: Capable of managing multiple projects effectively in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
What you can expect:
- Media relations: Develop and maintain relationships with key security journalists and influencers to secure consistent, high-quality coverage.
- Content development: Create and direct compelling content, including press releases, blog posts, and executive thought leadership bylines, that highlight 1Password's innovations and insights in cybersecurity.
- Event communications strategy and on-site support: Develop media and speaking strategy for industry events to showcase 1Password's cybersecurity expertise (ex. RSA, BlackHat, InfoSec Europe); facilitate media interviews and support speaking engagements at events.
- Rapid response: Lead the development of rapid response strategies to address emerging cybersecurity issues, ensuring 1Password's voice is present in critical industry conversations.
- Crisis communications: Support the Director, Communications & Social Media, in the execution of communications response plans in order to maintain trust and transparency, and help shape favorable business outcomes.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with marketing, product, spokespeople, and our external agency partners to ensure communication efforts are aligned with company goals and product developments.
- Measurement and reporting: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, adjusting tactics as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $118,000 USD and $182,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $134,000 CAD and $160,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
