We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Claims Executive with some experience and/or specialized expertise in the commercial Real Estate, Multi-Family, and/or HOA insurance sectors. This role requires general knowledge across all lines of Property & Casualty insurance (WC, GL, Auto, Property) but a particular focus on complex Property claims, Business Interruption (BI), and General Liability (GL). Additional experience in Management Liability and Professional Liability is a valuable asset. The ideal candidate will be a strategic consultant who is comfortable presenting to clients, navigating complex claim scenarios, and advocating effectively with our carrier partners. This role must be able to work with minimal oversight and can be used as a trainer & mentor with their specialized expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Client Advocacy & Oversight:
    • Serve as the main point of contact for clients in our Chicago office that has a high focus on clients in the commercial Real Estate, Multi-Family, and HOA sectors during the claim lifecycle.
    • Provide strategic guidance in navigating complex claims including Property, Business Interruption, and General Liability claims.
    • Facilitate presentations and deliver customized solutions to clients, reflecting a deep understanding of client-specific business operations along with claim analysis and loss trend reporting.
    • Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and carriers to ensure claims are managed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with policy intent.
    • Develop and execute tailored strategies to help achieve optimal claim resolutions for large and complex Property losses, including BI claims and catastrophic exposures.
    • Oversight of complex General Liability claims to ensure proper and efficient handling, with emphasis on contractual risk transfer and ultimate liability.
  • Technical Expertise & Analysis:
    • Review policy terms, endorsements, and exclusions thoroughly to advise clients and negotiate coverage disputes effectively.
    • Help clients prepare for and analyze Business Interruption loss calculations and adjustments, with a focus on client recovery and operational sustainability.
  • Carrier Collaboration & Negotiation:
    • Build and maintain relationships with carriers, adjusters, and underwriters to expedite resolutions, escalate issues, and preserve favorable client outcomes.
    • Contribute to pre-renewal discussions, ensuring policy language aligns with historical and prospective claim exposures.
  • Internal Collaboration & Leadership:
    • Collaborate closely with client service teams, advisors, and other strategic colleagues to provide claims insights and strategies.
    • Mentor other colleagues on claims advocacy best practices and technical knowledge.
  • Industry Research & Education:
    • Stay up to date on industry trends, regulations, and emerging risks impacting commercial property and casualty clients.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance, with a focus on complex commercial Property claims, Business Interruption, and General Liability.
    • Familiarity with Management Liability (D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary) and Professional Liability claims is a plus.
    • Experience with industry-standard tools such as Xactimate and other similar software along with carrier claim platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Claims Advocacy Skills:
    • Strong ability to interpret and apply policy language in the context of business operations and claims situations.
    • Superior negotiation skills and proven ability to influence carriers toward favorable claim outcomes.
  • Client Service & Presentation Skills:
    • Highly developed client-facing skills, including confidence in delivering presentations and working with C-suite stakeholders.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical matters in a clear, concise manner to clients.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Advanced analytical capabilities to evaluate claims data and adjust plans for optimal results.
    • Strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations require creativity and strategic judgment.

Education & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree is preferably in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, or a related field.
    • Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10-15+ years of experience in Property & Casualty claims, preferably in commercial insurance with a focus on commercial Real Estate, Multi-Family, and/or HOA sectors.
    • Hands-on experience overseeing high-value and complex Property claims and Business Interruption losses is essential.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter)
  • AIC (Associate in Claims)
  • ARM (Associate in Risk Management)

Additional Skills / Other:

  • Familiarity with legal frameworks around liability and risk transfer, especially for clients operating in the commercial Real Estate, Multi-Family, and/or HOA industries.
  • Experience overseeing catastrophic losses, including hurricanes, earthquakes, and flood claims is a plus.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, presentation tools, and insurance-specific software.
  • Travel may be required.
