Yahoo Finance is seeking an exceptional engineer to build scalable systems powering our Personal Finance products for 240 million monthly users. Working with our Tech Lead, you'll architect and develop services that help users optimize their finances and achieve their goals. This role demands technical excellence, pragmatic execution, and close collaboration with our product team to deliver impactful features that transform how users manage their money.

*This is a remote opportunity however with preference for location within the SF Bay Area

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, document, and maintain scalable distributed systems within our monorepo that power our personal finance platform

  • Expand our personal finance applications with features that help users achieve their financial goals

  • Contribute to product strategy as a stakeholder, collaborating across teams to ensure cohesive user experiences

  • Implement and monitor systems with appropriate metrics to ensure quality and performance

  • Participate in design and code reviews to maintain and improve engineering standards

  • Share knowledge and mentor team members as needed

Technical QualificationsRequired
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Strong understanding of API design principles (versioning, consistency, security, scalability) and best practices

  • Proficiency in backend development, preferably in Kotlin/Java

  • Proficiency in modern backend frameworks and API development

  • Proficiency in Linux-based environments and comfort debugging system-level issues

  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform)

  • Experience deploying and scaling applications in AWS or GCP, including serverless architectures (AWS Lambda)

  • Working knowledge of TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks

  • Experience implementing observability practices, ideally with OpenTelemetry standards

  • Experience designing and implementing distributed systems at scale

  • Proven ability to write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code

Nice to Have
  • Knowledge of the fintech domain

  • Experience with multi-project Gradle

  • Experience with notification systems or event-driven architectures

  • Experience with SvelteKit/Next.js

  • Experience with cloud-native development patterns

  • Familiarity with AI/ML integration in production applications

  • Familiarity with GraphQL

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
