Butler County Regional Authority is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a growing public transit organization serving Butler County and surrounding communities. Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Finance & Administration, the Senior Accountant processes or supervises all financial, accounting, data tracking, and reporting functions of the organization. Responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, payroll processing, financial reporting, budgeting support, grant administration, and audit preparation.
This role also supports compliance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) accounting requirements and assists with federal, state, and local grant management and reporting.
Essential Responsibilities- Perform and oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger transactions
- Assist with management of agency fixed assets
- Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Support annual budgeting processes and monitor budget compliance
- Reconcile bank statements and investigate financial discrepancies
- Assist in preparation of annual financial statements, MD&A, Hinkle filing documentation, and audit support materials
- Coordinate financial and statistical data collection across departments
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local accounting and reporting requirements
- Support grant application preparation, grant tracking, and related audits
- Assist with National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements
- Maintain accounting controls, internal controls, and financial confidentiality standards
- Collaborate with outside agencies including FTA, ODOT, and funding partners
- Prepare special financial reports and analyses as requested
- Attend meetings and training opportunities on behalf of the Director of Finance & Administration as needed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 3–5 years of accounting or finance experience required
- Experience with federal, state, or local funding sources preferred
- Government, transit, or nonprofit accounting experience highly desired
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with complex financial data
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- High attention to detail and confidentiality
- Effective collaboration and teamwork skills
- Ability to interpret financial documents, regulations, and reporting requirements

BCRTA is a political subdivision of the State of Ohio organized as a Regional Transit Authority under Ohio code. BCRTA acts as the designated recipient for Federal Transit Funds and provides public transportation services within and around Butler County, Ohio including Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield, West Chester, Oxford, and Miami University. The BCRTA employs or directs around 120 transit employees and manages an annual budget near $15M. BCRTA is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees.
