Primary Purpose:
The SQL Server DB Engineer/Administrator is an experienced Engineer with a demonstrated track record of providing expertise and leadership in the design, configuration, and management of SQL Server database systems. They are responsible for ensuring the availability, security, and performance of SQL Server database systems as well as managing backups to ensure data can be restored in case of failures or disasters. They are expected to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment leveraging forward-thinking technical database engineering expertise and working closely with Manager Service Providers to ensure quality services are delivered. The SQL Server DB Engineer/Administrator can significantly impact a project both as individual technical contributor, technical leader and mentor to more junior Engineers.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC , Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Leads the design, development, delivery, and optimization of databases, database instances, database clusters, database software, and related components.
• Conducts SQL application system reviews to optimize application performance and efficiency.
• Coaches and mentors' teams on the efficient use of SQL and database services.
• Serves as the senior subject matter expert and technical lead for SQL Server database technologies.
• Leads the review of IT solutions to assure compliance with database standards and industry best practices.
• Leads the analysis of complex problems, business requirements, and technical requirements to develop effective database solutions.
• Provides database consulting and design services to application developers and other consumers of database services.
• Maintains and develops relationships with business partners, solution delivery, data management, operations, external service provider, engineering, and other IT teams.
• Configure and deliver end-to-end support for database servers and data services running on VMware platform and Azure Cloud for product development teams.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of Database Engineering/DBA experience.
• Experience supporting 24/7 databases. The background in the retail industry is a plus.
• Extensive experience in HA and DR.
• Experience as an SQL Server database analyst, engineer, or architect.
• Experience with development and design in the database space.
• Extensive knowledge on creating and maintaining well performing physical database structures.
• Work with Application DBA, Developers and Operations/Systems DBA to optimize database structures and performance.
• Extensive experience in evaluating databases and server standards, analyzing execution plans, and offering recommendations to optimize query performance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of SQL Server transactional and peer-to-peer replication, including configuration and troubleshooting of performance issues.
• Provide SQL and technical analysis on non-prod and prod database environments and recommend improvements.
• Coordinate and support database, application, OS and hardware upgrades.
• Familiar with database installation and configuration/parameter tuning.
• Familiar with day-to-day database administration, database utilities and performance monitoring tools.
• Assist with database upgrades, configuration, and patches.
• Assist with monitoring and fine-tuning databases.
• Familiar with database security and access.
• Experience designing, building, deploying, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server database instances, clusters, objects, software, and related components.
• Proven experience delivering database solutions within a project management framework.
• Advanced knowledge of database stored procedures, database triggers, database commands, and database utilities.
• Proven experience designing, developing, delivering, and optimizing database backup, recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Hands on experience in Design, configuration, and supporting HA on SQL-Server
• Understand the ins and outs of database physical and logical replications, clustering, mirroring, and high availability.
• Experience in Full Stack Private and Public Cloud Data Engineering, Operations, and Application Knowledge.
• Identifies and troubleshoots availability and performance issues at layers of data services for both on-prem and Cloud.
• Production experience in Cloud technologies.
• Extensive experience in Azure SQL Databases.
• Advanced knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) including Data Manipulation Language (DML) and Data Definition Language (DDL).
• Extensive experience mentoring and providing database consulting services.
• Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office, and other productivity tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in relevant field of study, Additional trainings or certifications in relevant field of study.
• Experience with database tools like Quest Spotlight, Quest LiteSpeed, and SQL Server Management Studio.
• Experience with Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and other Backup and Recovery tools.
• Experience with windows scripts, programing languages, or Unix shell scripts.

Salary Range: $108,880 | $136,100 | $163,320
