Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join our Integrated Defense Solutions team in an exciting program supporting the U.S. Navy's next generation of strategic deterrent and integrated combat systems. Serving as a Specialty Engineering Lead Engineer, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts in developing and implementing a well-planned systems engineering approach to implementing a strategic vision for future Specialty Engineering sections which include system security and system safety engineering, for current and future large-scale missile systems. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team enabling our Nation's technological superiority on strategic missions through development of advanced concepts and initiatives throughout the systems lifecycle.
As a Lead Engineer, you will lead the technical performance in support of advanced programs under the direction, and in-collaboration with, Program Management leadership. In this role, you will provide cybersecurity and safety engineering leadership in performing technical analysis, trade studies, research, development, and test and evaluation to lead system definition and realization activities, resolve issues, and make recommendations regarding enhanced capabilities.
The primary objective for this role is to provide sound engineering principles and disciplined guidance to ensure successful execution of technical plans and goals while communicating effectively with internal and external management and senior-level customer representatives concerning operational decisions, technical risk identification and mitigation, definition and achievement of cybersecurity and safety requirements, and overall end-to-end systems engineering process definition and oversight.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in system cybersecurity and system safety concepts and an understanding of Navy operations in support of a complex system.

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Typical education and years of related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred with an emphasis on cybersecurity, or at least 12 years proven experience successfully leading specialty engineering activities including surety, cybersecurity design, and vulnerability analysis across large-scale weapon systems; or a Master of Science in Engineering or related field and minimum of 10 years of related experience.
Additional skills/experience required:

  • 10+ years of experience leading system development and cybersecurity vulnerability assessments for complex systems.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting complex system design and development in a technical leadership role.
  • Thorough understanding and implementation of risk management processes and mitigation strategies for system security engineering and system safety engineering disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding and implementation of cybersecurity, supply chain, and safety processes during system developmental activities and throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering processes across the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience conducting science and technology research, analysis, trade studies, system integration, verification and validation, and test of complex systems.
  • Experience with technical presentations and customer-facing activities at the leadership level.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with customers to understand critical challenges, shape customer requirements, develop innovative solutions, and manage execution of solutions through implementation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills with technical emphasis.


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Prior industry experience that afforded opportunities to ensure the effectiveness of major defense systems such as Trident, Minuteman, or Peacekeeper.
  • Knowledge and experience working in the DoD/DOE technical services industry.
  • Experience in community networking with academia and non-defense agencies.
  • Experience with Risk Management Framework (NIST 800-53) and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with Critical Program Information Identification and Criticality Analysis.
  • Certified in one or more of the following SSE certification programs: CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP).
  • Certified in one or more of the following safety certification programs: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and OHSMS (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
  • Thorough understanding and implementation of the end-to-end System Engineering lifecycle.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $150370 - $255630
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
