We are seeking a Specialist, Underwriting Quality Assurance – Life for a full-time, 100% remote position. The ideal candidate will have over 4 years of experience in Individual Life Underwriting, with strong expertise in managing Automated Underwriting and Accelerated Underwriting processes. They should also have experience with Post-Issue Audit processes and programs. The candidate must be comfortable working closely with multiple levels of leadership across several departments and directly with underwriting staff. Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical abilities, and organizational skills are essential, as this individual will manage several projects simultaneously. Proficiency in detailed reporting using tools like Excel and Tableau is required.

As a Specialist, you'll conduct technical quality file reviews for Life Underwriting execution process and control audits. You may serve as a technical resource and assist in the development of relevant materials for training and onboarding new hires.

Key Responsibilities:
Post-Issue Audits:

Conducts thorough reviews of life insurance policies that have already been issued.

Verifies the accuracy of underwriting decisions, including risk assessments, premium calculations, and policy classifications.

Identifies any discrepancies between the original application, digital health records, and policy documentation.

Collaborates with underwriters, claims teams, and other stakeholders to address any issues discovered during the audit.

Ensures compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and best practices.

Develops and maintain audit protocols for post-issue reviews.

Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the underwriting process.

Collaborates with the quality assurance team to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures.
Documentation and Reporting:

Documents findings from post-issue audits.

Prepares reports for management, highlighting issues or trends.

Maintains accurate records of audit results and corrective actions.
Collaboration and Training:

Works closely with underwriters, actuaries, and claims professionals to share insights and best practices.

Provides training and guidance to underwriting teams on post-issue audit procedures.

Proposes adjustments to underwriting guidelines or processes based on observed mortality trends.

Fosters a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement within the underwriting department.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equitable job-related experience (e.g., finance, mathematics, actuarial science, or business administration) is preferred but not required.
License/Certification/Designation: Working towards certification in underwriting (e.g., FLMI, ALU) is preferred but not required.
Experience: 4 years' experience in life insurance underwriting, with a focus on post-issue audits preferable.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Proficiency in using underwriting software and tools. Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.
The national salary range for Specialist, Underwriting Quality Assurance - Life : $77,000.00-$159,000.00
The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Underwriting Quality Assurance - Life : $85,500.00 - $128,500.00
