Role can be filled in Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, Scottsdale, Arizona and current remote associates will also be considered. If by one of our office locations, this will be a hybrid schedule coming into the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This position follows standard Monday–Friday business hours. On-call support is required one week out of every six, with 24/7 availability during that period.
 
As a member of Production Support on the Wing Walkers line, supporting Life New Business applications, you will be responsible for researching and resolving issues submitted by business ops team as well as issues identified through system monitoring. The ideal candidate will bring thought leadership to the team and help identify and develop innovative and efficient solutions and processes that will help the production support team better serve our business partners and end users.

This position will also support development and implementation of infrastructure upgrades and will work closely with Middleware team as well as our SaaS vendor partners.
 
Communication is key for this role as you will be interfacing with both IT and Business partners.  You will focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient researching and resolution of issues that allows applications to function properly and support continuous deployment all improving speed to delivery for our business partners. Off hours support will be required of this role as there will be on call rotation and potentially implementation deployment responsibilities. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
Immediate Resolution Support for P0 Incidents (On Call).
Resolution/Mitigation Support for Incidents (P1-P4).
Example: Action needed by IT team on policy for user to be able to continue processing.
Participate and provide information/analysis for RCA activities related to incidents.
Resolution/Mitigation Support for Tasks (aka Walk Ups). 
Example: Unknown error occurred and a work around was possible, business wants to understand what happened so a defect can be written if applicable.
Plan, Coordinate, Facilitate & Validate DR activities.
Validation Support for Infrastructure Release activities.  Including but not limited to Releases & Patching. 
Plan, Coordinate, Facilitate & Validate production implementations. 
Resolution/Mitigation Support for Problem Tasks (PTASK). 
Support for Information Risk Management (IRM) & Audit activity. 
Support for Infrastructure activity.  Including (but not limited to) Upgrades, Tool Migrations and Technical Detail Verification. 
Request Maintain and Support ID & Access Management. 
Develop, Maintain and Support application monitoring. Tools including but not limited to Splunk, New Relic and FullStory. 
Gain Knowledge & Understanding of Production Operations to Ensure Code Quality. 
Participate and provide feedback in Implementation Planning, Design and Code Reviews. 
Resolution/Mitigation Support for Universal Automation Center and Batch Jobs. 
Run Reports Per Business Request.
Production Mitigation/Clean Up – provide production support when an issue cannot be resolved in a timely manner and requires manual intervention/action. 
Support Configuration Management activity.  Including (but not limited to) Data Verification, Data Updates, and Code Migration. 
May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 
 
Technical Skills Required: 
Able to debug complex code involving Java, Spring MVC, JavaScript, Spring Boot
Able to understand basic SQL and Oracle PL/SQL
Basic to Intermediate Linux skills
Basic Docker/Kubernetes skills
Tools – Microsoft Teams, Jira, ServiceNow, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) 
Development Tools - GitHub, Apigee for APIs, New Relic, Splunk, Jenkins, Harness, Urbancode Deploy, AWS, Rancher, Azure, Postman, SoapUI, Eclipse, Harbor
 
Soft Skills Required:
General Communication – Written & Verbal

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

The national salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $84,000.00-$173,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $93,500.00 - $139,500.00
