Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

The  Institutional Onboarding team is made up of high functioning, solutions oriented, compliance support professionals at different levels who work independently and together to mitigate risk for Coinbase and our clients.  The team builds relationships with Sales, Account Managers, Compliance, Engineering, etc. to rapidly drive the Onboarding process forward.

The Analyst (specialist) role is integral to the onboarding of high priority clients.  The analyst communicates directly with the client to facilitate the Client Due Diligence (CDD) and where needed the Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) escalation process.  During the onboarding process, the analyst is responsible for conducting an investigative review and analysis of the client’s application in support of Coinbase’s KYC /AML regulatory compliance policies and program including automated alerts, reviewing required documentation and information supplied and gathered to determine accuracy, whether they meet regulatory requirements, and to determine risk rating. Investigations and findings are documented in the client’s Salesforce application, written narratives and in Ironclad. The Analyst (specialist) is up to date on and considered an SMEs in industry standards and developments in the areas of KYC, BSA/AML, and OFAC, and apply regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures to case investigations.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Communicate directly with high profile clients to perform platform walk-throughs, answer difficult and complex questions, identify and explain documentation requirements, escalate sensitive requests
  • Conduct investigative review and analysis in support of Coinbase’s KYC/AML regulatory compliance policies and program including confirming and analyzing documentation received and required during the application review and provisioning process
  • Analyze client responses, documentation and KYC information and conduct due diligence reviews in support of detailed Coinbase processes and procedures
  • Document Client Due Diligence / Enhanced Due Diligence investigations in written narratives
  • Decide whether activity warrants escalation for additional review and subsequently recommend whether documentation appears suspicious and warrants rejecting the client's application after receiving appropriate approvals
  • Incorporate feedback from Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams
  • Maintain detailed documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Remain current with industry standards and developments in the areas of KYC, BSA/AML, and OFAC, and apply regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures to case investigations

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience onboarding regulated clients and conducting AML/KYC investigations and customer due diligence
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., BSA, OFAC, FinCEN guidance)
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communications (verbal and written) skills
