Caterpillar Switchgear, part of the Electric Power Division, currently has an opening for an Software HMI Engineer located in Alpharetta, Georgia. In this role, you will design, modify, develop, write and implement software-programming for generator control switchgear human machine interface applications. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Modify template HMI programs to coincide with project-specific PLC programs
  • Modify Operator Manuals to reflect project specific HMI screens.
  • Configure industrial computers with software and HMI project.
  • Provide HMI Engineering/Technical support to Production, Helpdesk, Field Service and Aftermarket
  • .Support various HMI packages such as FactoryTalk, Vijeo, iFix and GE
  • Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of the HMI software.
  • Assist Product Support Department with troubleshooting field HMI projects / remote PC configurations etc.
  • Develop custom reports via HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Remain up to date with industry changes, directions and improvements regarding HMI and Network infrastructure.

What you have:
Systems Software Infrastructure: Experience with HMI computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
Level Working Knowledge:• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the HMI field
• Experience with Factory Talk, Vijeo, RSView (or equivalent) HMI software
• Programming experience preferred, VB scripting, Java scripting
• Reports software connectivity and integration issues.• Demonstrates planned software changes on the local environment.• Administers software migration and contingency plans related to own function.• Analyzes the local software architecture components and products.• Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment.
Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
Level Basic Understanding:• Focuses activities on developing and maintaining positive customer relationships.• Discusses general differences between internally and externally focused organizations.• Cites the cost and benefits of good versus poor customer service.• Explains why customer satisfaction is important to successful product/service delivery.

Business Intelligence: Knowledge of business intelligence; ability to utilize business processes and technologies for gathering, storing, analyzing, and providing access to data that helps the organization make better business decisions.
Level Extensive Experience:• Organizes and maintains data to be captured in the data warehouse for BI applications.• Evaluates alternative BI products in terms of their potential value to organization.• Develops targeted marketing campaigns based on BI analysis.• Develops processes for transforming aggregate data into useful business information.• Analyzes BI gained from multiple and diverse environments.• Evaluates key benefits, drawbacks and rationale for existing BI activities.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Level Working Knowledge:• Discovers, analyzes, and resolves hardware, software or application problems.• Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities.• Handles calls related to product features, applications, and compatibility standards.• Analyzes code, logs, and current systems as part of advanced troubleshooting.• Records and reports specific technical problems, solving processes and tools that have been used.

Summary Pay Range:
$79,800.00 - $119,760.00
