We are seeking an Application Engineer to join our product engineering teams and help build customer-facing applications that directly serve financial advisors and their clients.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys turning business requirements into elegant technical solutions, thrives in a collaborative environment, and wants to grow their expertise in fintech and wealth management technology.

You’ll own feature development from concept to production, contribute to architectural decisions, and work closely with Product, Design, Quality, and Security to deliver high-impact solutions that are scalable, secure, and intuitive.

We can only consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.

What You’ll Do:Software Development & Delivery
  • Design and implement features independently within established architectural patterns

  • Deliver high-quality, maintainable code with comprehensive unit and integration testing

  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, participating in root cause analysis and remediation

  • Apply secure coding standards and data privacy best practices

  • Continuously improve code quality, performance, and reliability

Technical Design & Problem Solving
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and specification documents

  • Implement solutions to complex problems within the wealth management domain

  • Identify edge cases, performance concerns, and potential risks early in development

  • Recommend practical, scalable approaches to application-level challenges

  • Create reusable components and patterns that improve team velocity

Execution & Ownership
  • Participate actively in sprint planning, estimation, and backlog refinement

  • Manage priorities effectively and deliver features on schedule

  • Follow and elevate engineering standards through thoughtful code reviews

  • Identify and address inefficiencies in development workflows

  • Take ownership of application codebases and simplify complexity wherever possible

Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Quality Engineering, and Information Security teams

  • Translate technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders

  • Engage in requirement discussions and contribute practical technical insights

  • Provide constructive feedback in code reviews and support junior engineers

  • Demo completed features confidently to stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C#, Python)

  • Experience building web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, .NET)

  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and modern application architecture patterns

  • Experience with database design and query optimization

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies

  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and data privacy considerations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in team settings

  • Ownership mindset and attention to detail

  • Curiosity and desire to grow technical and domain expertise

  • Experience in wealth management or financial services is a plus

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

  • 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience

  • Experience building and maintaining customer-facing web applications

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver features end-to-end in agile environments

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $125,000-$142,000.

 

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
