Job Description

The Senior Engineering Manager leads the architecture, development, and management of direct-to-consumer digital products for quoting and selling Allstate Health Solutions’ offerings. This role is responsible for designing and building modern digital solutions using contemporary tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems that support Allstate's Health Network Group. You will leverage your technical expertise to drive the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software products. Additionally, you will oversee production applications and take full ownership of their performance and success, while also being accountable for the leadership and development of your team.
Allstate's Health Network Group is responsible for marketing, lead generation, and call traffic to support the carrier and affiliated sales centers, including VelaPoint, HealthCompare, and Healthcare Solutions Team.

Job Responsibilities: 

1. Technical Leadership & Hands-On Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance software solutions.

  • Guide the team in architectural decisions, coding best practices, and system design.

  • Conduct code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and secure code.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize performance issues, system reliability, and scalability.

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices to drive innovation.

2. Team Management & Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance and career development.

  • Conduct 1-on-1 meetings, set performance goals, and foster a collaborative team culture.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (e.g., QA, DevOps, Product Management) to align development with business objectives.

  • Act as a bridge between management and engineers, communicating project progress, roadblocks, and resource needs.

3. Agile Project Execution

  • Drive Agile/Scrum development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects while maintaining high engineering standards.

  • Manage workloads, priorities, and timelines to balance team efficiency and quality.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements, user stories, and backlog items.

4. System Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, AppInsights, Prometheus) to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

  • Ensure CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments are running smoothly.

  • Implement best practices for observability, logging, and proactive issue detection.

Qualifications & Skills:

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong experience in .NET, NodeJS, React, SQL.

  • Knowledge of microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and APIs.

  • Familiarity with SQL & NoSQL databases and data modeling.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD tools.

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS) is a plus

Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Experience leading teams of 4-10 engineers.

  • Ability to coach, mentor, and support team members in their technical growth.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Agile & DevOps Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Understanding of DevOps principles, including infrastructure as code (IaC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with monitoring tools (Dynatrace, App Insights.).

  • Knowledge of security best practices in software development.

  • Experience with high-availability and distributed systems.

Education

• 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)

Experience

• 10 or more years of experience (Preferred)

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This job has supervisory duties.

Education & Experience (in lieu)

• In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $141,800.00 - 219,200.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
