Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Internal Identity Team's mission is to protect Stripe by providing primitives that enable secure user access at Stripe. We build tools that enable Stripe to enforce strong authentication and authorization controls, while providing a seamless user experience for Stripes to do their best work. Our team is responsible for core identity, authentication, and authorization systems critical to Stripe's security infrastructure.

What you’ll do

As an Infrastructure Engineer on the Internal Identity Team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the reliability, performance, and scalability of Stripe’s identity and access management systems. You will design, implement, and maintain robust systems that serve as the backbone for access management across the organization, ensuring that our authorization systems are built with high availability and low latency at their core.

While prior experience with security is definitely a plus, it's not a requirement for this role. If you're eager to tackle new challenges and gain experience in security, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable and scalable infrastructure solutions for core identity and access management systems.
  • Contribute to the full stack development of identity and access management systems, including design and implementation of core APIs, services, and data-flows in Go.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure adherence to 99.99% Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for critical authentication and authorization infrastructure
  • Monitor system performance and availability, proactively diagnosing and resolving operational issues as they arise.
  • Automate operational processes and improve infrastructure efficiency using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Puppet.
  • Conduct post-incident reviews and implement strategies to enhance system reliability and security.
  • Improve operational processes and promote best practices for site reliability engineering, fostering a culture of reliability within the team.
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and orchestration tools (e.g. Puppet, Terraform).

  • Strong programming and scripting skills in languages such as Go and Python.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and LogScale.
  • Understanding of security best practices in the context of identity and access management systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred qualifications
  • Previous experience with security is beneficial, but not required
  • Familiarity with the Go programming language
  • Experience managing infrastructure for identity and access management technologies and systems.
