Software Engineer, Developer Experience

Your Role

As a Software Engineer on the DevX team, you will contribute to building tools and improving development processes that enable Zip’s engineers to ship enterprise-quality software with high velocity. You’ll work alongside experienced teammates to support the development of scalable systems and internal tooling that improve the developer experience across Zip’s technical roadmap.

You will ship features that will be immediately used by our developers and will work with a tight-knit team that values open communication and cross-functional collaboration. We move quickly to solve a wide range of complex technical and product challenges. While we are an experienced team that can provide constant guidance and mentorship, we value engineers who can autonomously scope and solve difficult technical challenges.

You Will

• Contribute to improving feature reliability and performance by writing tests across the test pyramid, generating realistic test data, and supporting the development of testing frameworks.

• Assist in debugging and troubleshooting efforts by using internal tools and documenting issues to help the team quickly identify and resolve performance regressions.

• Participate in the rollout of new deployment and release processes, including testing canary deployments, reviewing feature bundles, and managing feature flags.

• Support engineering efficiency by helping reduce tech debt, running codemods (using libcst), and identifying workflow improvements to streamline development.
  

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering experience.

• BS or higher, in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or math).

• Experience with industry standard build, test, and deploy tools. At Zip, our stack includes Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub, and Datadog.

• Attention to detail with a strong ownership mindset.

• Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment, help remove obstacles, lead and drive complex operational initiatives, and drive velocity.  

Nice to have

• Experience working with internal stakeholders 

• Keen desire to focus on the developer experience (Removing obstacles or driving velocity)

• Experience with developer tools like GitHub, GitLab, Buildkite, Jenkins, and Docker.

The salary range for this role is $150,000 - $190,000. The salary for this position is determined based on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant experience, education, or particular skills and expertise.
