Overview
We are looking for a hands-on SEO Manager (Contractor) to provide coverage across our SEO program. This role will ensure continuity across vendor management, technical SEO, content optimization, and performance reporting while our SEO lead is on leave.

This is a highly executional role — ideal for someone who can quickly audit, prioritize, and drive progress across multiple SEO workstreams without heavy ramp time.

Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Management & Execution
  • Review current vendor workstreams (link building + content) to understand what is in flight and identify any gaps or risks
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external vendors
  • Ensure deliverables are on track, high quality, and aligned with strategy
  • Provide clear direction and feedback on:
    • Link acquisition quality and relevance
    • Content topics, briefs, and optimization opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to improve vendor output and efficiency

2. Technical SEO
  • Review current technical SEO initiatives and site health (crawlability, indexing, performance)
  • Monitor and flag any critical issues or regressions
  • Partner with Engineering as needed to prioritize and resolve issues
  • Validate technical implementations (schema, internal linking, site structure)
  • Ensure SEO best practices are maintained during site or product changes

3. On-Page Optimization
  • Audit existing priority pages and ongoing optimization efforts
  • Identify gaps and opportunities across:
    • Metadata (titles, descriptions)
    • Content structure and keyword alignment
    • Internal linking
  • Partner with content and product teams to implement updates

4. LLM / AI Search Visibility
  • Assess current visibility across AI-driven search surfaces (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity)
  • Identify opportunities to improve brand and product presence
  • Partner with content vendors to shape content that improves LLM discoverability
  • Stay current on evolving best practices and apply learnings

5. Reporting & Insights
  • Review existing dashboards and reporting frameworks to ensure accuracy and clarity
  • Provide a weekly performance snapshot including:
    • Executive Summary
    • Traffic trends
    • Rankings (priority keywords/pages)
    • Key wins, risks, and changes in performance
  • Call out major shifts (algorithm updates, ranking changes, etc.)
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights — not just reporting

What Success Looks Like
  • SEO program runs smoothly with no disruption
  • Quick ramp through clear understanding of what’s already in motion
  • Vendors are aligned and delivering high-quality output
  • Key issues are proactively identified and addressed
  • Clear visibility into performance with actionable insights
  • No degradation in rankings, traffic, or overall SEO health

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience with a D2C company (in-house or agency)
  • Strong experience across:
    • Technical SEO
    • On-page optimization
    • Content strategy
  • Experience with AI/LLM search trends
  • Proven ability to quickly audit and take ownership of in-flight work
  • Experience managing external vendors
  • Strong analytical skills — able to translate data into action

Nice to Have
  • Experience with ecommerce or marketplace businesses
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering
  • Familiarity with tools like Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs/Semrush, Screaming Frog
