Overview
Mastercard is dedicated to promoting inclusive growth and financial inclusion. The mandate of the Regional Public Sector unit is to build durable, trusted relationships with key government agencies to accelerate their transition to a cashless ecosystem though digitalization, while increasing revenues and seeding new markets for Mastercard. We drive relevance and revenues in the government space by developing effective regional go to market programs supported by clear priorities, success metrics and incentives. We provide expert sales support to both country managers and local sales resources through a solid client engagement playbook approach. We guide the transition from reactive solutions sales to strategic public sector programs. And we ensure alignment between regional demand and our global solutions.
• The Regional Public Sector Senior Vice President role focuses on aligning Mastercard's
product, service and ecosystem capabilities to solve for the challenges government client face today in the areas of financial inclusion, citizen service efficiency, inclusive economic growth and government operational excellence. We do this by engaging, listening and leading. Our regional team is comprised of industry leaders, relationship builders and deal closers. We apply Mastercard's digital tools, business insights, last mile solutions and market organizing skills to support client success. We also have a passion for learning, exploring new capabilities, and applying the best methodologies and insights to the government business.
• This role is at the heart of our intent to scale our business across all regions to drive revenue, market
relevance and social impact. The unit is regionally deployed and focuses on a select number of priority
markets, segments and clients, directly agreed with the senior leadership in the region.
• The Regional Public Sector SVP is accountable for:
o The development of the regional government vision, strategy and execution program including a list of prioritized markets, clients and solution opportunities.
o Identify and pursue opportunities in digitizing big government flows, transformational infrastructure partnerships, major transit and tourism initiatives
o The acceleration of Mastercard's revenue performance in the region, through a structured and diligent sales excellence approach.
o The effective management of a growing team of senior government specialists across target markets, in a peer alignment to the Divisional Presidents.
o The effective representation of the Public Sector business opportunity within the region's senior management team, as well as the negotiation of the related revenue and relevance objectives with other members of the management team.
o The alignment of global, regional and local resources to drive execution, in close coordination with the Region's President, the Divisional Presidents, the regional product and service units and the Mastercard Strategic Growth management team.
o Direct engagement on key government opportunities, at the top civil servant and political government executive level, developing the business opportunities across the region, assisting country managers and helping win strategic deals.
o Capacity building at the markets level by training sales on relevant Mastercard solutions, narrative and client references.
o The establishment and management of a regional community of practice to cross-fertilize regional and global best practices.
o This position reports directly to EVP, Market Development - EEMEA with a dotted line reporting relationship into the Global Lead, Public Sector Center of Excellence. Location is flexible but must be in region.
Role• Primary accountability for development and execution of the regional government strategy, starting
from:
o Develop a deep understanding of regional, national and local priorities.
o Engaging region and division leadership in a peer fashion to prioritize clients and solution opportunities. Negotiate and secure local support of resources, aligning them to execution.
o Securing global and regional resources to execute on the plan and drive marquee wins. Build a region-wide Public Sector extended steering committee including peers in the Public Policy, Legal, Services, Consumer and commercial products, O&T and Delivery units.
o Lead a team of segment experts, helping them growing in their roles by active coaching and talent planning
o Accelerate solutions deployment by providing regional trainings to own team and other in market units, provide expert sales support for marquee engagements.
o Liaison with the peers across the five global regions of MA and the Global PS team to represent EEMEA and draw on expertise and market development support
o Personally initiate and drive marquee, commercial deals.
o Represent the Region within Strategic Growth's management team. Drive strategic alignment with global units.
o Build and curate the regional community of practice. Mobilize the team to act as first line of support for regional & divisional presidents for thought leadership and strategic engagements.
All About You• Experience working for or closely with government agencies, managing process improvement and
transformative change initiatives, as well as proven experience in engaging very senior government
leaders to build durable relations.• Proven track in leading and closing large and complex government deals in the region.• Consultative selling focused, with deep product, services, and solutions expertise and hands-on approach• Adept at interacting with senior Mastercard stakeholders - in terms of engagement, communication and transparency of purpose. Can skillfully lead complex regional initiatives that require collaboration across functional, geographical and cultural lines.• Demonstrated ability to work across divisional boundaries, within the region, acting as peer to other senior leaders.• Self-motivated, thrives in a fast-paced environment; readiness to take-on stretch goals.• Strong gravitas, exceptional relationship management, influencing and communication skills.• Open to travel across the region and globally• English fluency is required. At least one other regional language a strong plus.
