CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Underwriting Systems Analyst who will help implement, maintain, and enhance commercial insurance products within the Guidewire PolicyCenter platform. This role partners with underwriting systems and product analysts, along with stakeholders across IT, Actuarial, Underwriting, Operations, Billing, and Claims. The Senior Analyst documents business requirements, supports development and QA during sprints, leads user acceptance testing, and assists business users with service requests and training. This position promotes underwriting integrity, regulatory compliance, efficient workflows, and a strong user experience aligned with company goals.

 

Job Description:

  • Contributes to the establishment of, and adherence to, the standards and best practices for processes governing requirement development, defect reporting, user acceptance testing and UW system troubleshooting.
  • Applies knowledge of common and product-specific system functionality to support establishment of comprehensive requirements and root cause of defects. Articulates in system and/or business terminology based on audience needs.
  • Independently creates testing plans, devises scenarios for risk-based testing, and enforces metrics established for tracking progress. Provides feedback to others regarding test case scenarios. Opens defects and performs re-testing within desired timeframes.
  • Independently and effectively translates requests from Underwriting, Operations and Product Management into forms use case scenarios and user stories. User story requirements contemplate the various ways to rate/quote/issue (via online internal users and quote API’s). 
  • Contemplates the unique needs of the various internal system user groups and roles when reviewing requirements, proposed solutions and test case scenarios to support holistic implementation.
  • Coordinates meetings and perform system demos for user story acceptance and training purposes.
  • Performs production issue triage, validates requirements, submits defects when needed, and communicates status and resolution within target SLA. Gathers data as needed to assist prioritization and trending. Supports execution of known workarounds and may define new workarounds. Escalates and prioritizes appropriately.
  • Anticipates possible problems and creates solutions to solve them.
  • Provides feedback used to make go/no-go recommendations for production releases.
  • Provides feedback regarding PolicyCenter training needs among stakeholders. Authors/edits and delivers effective training content, including training scripts, videos & other resources/job aides needed to implement processes and support business users.
  • Identify and advocates for process improvements. Participates in retrospectives and pursues implementation of changes.
  • Supports PolicyCenter and 3rd party underwriting/product system access and letters of authority assignments for internal system users. Manages bi-annual user access audits.
  • Supports requirements for, and changes to, all rules enforced via policy admin tables controlled by the UW Systems & Product team.

Qualifications/Competencies: 

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Commercial Insurance
  • College degree and/or professional insurance certifications desirable; High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
  • Ideal candidate possesses:
    • Prior experience working with Guidewire PolicyCenter (or similar policywriting administration application)
    • Understanding of business workflows for transacting commercial insurance
    • Knowledge of Agile methodology
    • Prior experience working with Jira/Confluence (or willingness to learn)
    • Prior hands-on experience developing test case scenarios and/or writing business requirements
  • All candidates possess:
    • Interpersonal skills enabling you to build positive, collaborative working relationships with peers, clients, and leaders on a remote basis
    • Strong organizational skills and work ethic to manage the demands of the job and to ensure deadlines are met
    • Adaptability and willingness to accept and champion change
    • Ability to interpret technical resources for insurance products (such as bureau manuals, regulatory bulletins, underwriting and proprietary product guidelines) and for Guidewire.
    • Ability to learn and translate system functionality in order to develop effective user acceptance test cases and training material for business end users
    • Desire to work in an environment where you own multiple assignments that require you to exercise proper judgment to prioritize appropriately
    • Attentiveness to details
    • Willingness to be challenged to find solutions for time-sensitive and/or critical problems to meet the business users’ needs
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including deployment evenings/weekend, as needed

    Salary Range:

    • $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 annually
    • Compensation may vary dependent on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
    • In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.

    Benefits:

    • We provide some benefits at no cost to the employee (Basic Life Insurance and AD&D at two times an employee's annual salary, Short- and Long-term Disability coverage, and Employee Assistance Plan).
    • Employees will accrue 0.0769 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) per paid hour, which may total 20 days a year. In addition, employees will also receive 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
