About the Company

The mining industry has steadily become worse at finding new ore deposits, requiring >10X more capital to make discoveries compared to 30 years ago. The easy-to-find, near-surface deposits have largely been found, and the industry has chronically under-invested in new exploration technology, relying on the manual techniques of yesteryear – even as demand accelerates for copper, lithium, and other metals to build electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers.

KoBold builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys those models—alongside our novel sensors—to guide decisions on KoBold-owned-and-operated exploration programs. In the six years since founding, KoBold has become by far both the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer. Our data scientists and software engineers, who come from leading technology companies, jointly lead exploration programs with our renowned exploration geologists.

KoBold has proven its first discovery with materially less capital than the industry average and found one of the best copper deposits ever discovered: the copper is far more concentrated than the global average of copper mines, and this asset alone is expected to generate meaningful revenue for decades. KoBold has a portfolio of more than 60 other projects, each of which has the potential for another high-quality discovery.

KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and natural resources companies Equinor, BHP, and Mitsubishi.

You will also be responsible for end-to-end accounting activities for a set of legal entities, support procure-to-pay processes, and assist with the administration and monitoring of domestic and international bank accounts. As KoBold is a growing company, this role will be hands-on and dynamic, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and support process improvements as the organization scales.

  • Assist with banking portal administration, including adding or removing users and managing user access
  • Manage and support the company credit card and expense programs, including transaction reviews for policy compliance, exception follow-up, expense audit support, and maintenance of card limits and user access
  • Support external audit requests related to cash, investments, and treasury operations
Perform monthly close activities for assigned holding company entities, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations in support of the consolidated close
  • Support accounting and finance operations projects, identify opportunities to streamline payment, vendor, and banking processes, and maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Handle sensitive financial and personal information in a confidential manner

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, accounts payable, treasury operations, or related finance roles
  • Hands-on experience supporting core treasury functions, including initiating payments in online banking portals and maintaining bank accounts and banking relationships
  • Experience supporting accounting for international operations, including multi-currency environments and global banking considerations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new financial systems, tools, and processes
Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining strong judgment and accountability
  • Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot time-sensitive or critical issues and resolve unfamiliar challenges efficiently
  • Flexibility to support treasury-related activities outside standard company business hours when required by banking or financial institution schedules
Collaborative, hands-on mindset with a willingness to support broader accounting and finance operations as needed
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
