About Opendoor
At Opendoor our mission is to tilt the world in favor of homeowners and those who aim to become one. Homeownership matters. It's how people build wealth, stability, and community. It's how families put down roots, how neighborhoods strengthen, how the future gets built. We're building the modern system of homeownership giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms. We’ve built an end-to-end online experience that has already helped thousands of people and we’re just getting started.
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to join our Tax team. You'll work across the full tax cycle at a public company, from the quarterly provision and month-end close to compliance and notices, alongside our Tax leadership and external advisors. It's a role where you'll get broad exposure quickly, own meaningful work, and see your ideas for doing things better put into practice.
At Opendoor, AI is part of how we work every day. You'll have the tools and the room to let AI handle the repetitive work, so more of your time goes to the analysis and judgment that builds your career.
This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Tax Manager. You'll partner closely with Accounting and Legal across federal, state, local, and non-income tax.
What you'll do
Tax Reporting & Compliance
- Own the tax compliance calendar. Make sure everything is filed and paid on time, and flag what's coming before it becomes urgent
- Prepare quarterly and annual ASC 740 provision workpapers, including current and deferred calculations, rollforwards, and footnote support
- Manage the federal and state income tax return process with our external advisors: provide the data they need, review their work, and get returns, extensions, and estimates filed accurately and on time
- Manage non-income tax compliance, including gross receipts, franchise, property, and local business taxes
- Handle tax in month-end close: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and the SOX controls around them
- Draft responses to tax notices and see them through to resolution
- Research tax issues, write clear memos, and document new calculations so anyone on the team can run them
AI-Driven Tax Practice
- Reach for AI first. Use Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, and similar tools to speed up research, draft memos, analyze notices, and build workflows the team can reuse
- Default to AI, don't defer to it. Automate what's mechanical and spend your time on the judgment calls. Anything with your name on it is something you can explain and defend
What you'll need
- Corporate income tax experience at a global accounting firm or in industry
- Hands-on experience with ASC 740 provision and federal and state compliance
- Strong accounting foundation. You understand how entries flow through the books and how the accounting translates to tax
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA, or actively pursuing it
- Hands-on experience with AI tools like Claude, Codex, or ChatGPT. You can point to a workflow that runs differently because of it, and you know how to catch AI when it's wrong
- You prioritize naturally. With several deadlines in play, you know right away what matters most and why
- You make things better. You've fixed a process, not just flagged it, and you raise tax issues before anyone asks
- You write clearly. Someone outside tax can follow your work, and someone inside tax can defend it
Bonus points
- Big 4 or public company experience
- Multi-state compliance experience, including non-income taxes
- Experience with NetSuite, Snowflake, advanced Excel, or SQL
- Master's in Taxation
Location
We're looking for team members who are enthusiastic about an in-office culture — people who want to build alongside others and not from a distance. This role is based in one of our talent hubs where we welcome everyone 5 days a week with the requirement of Mo, Tu, Th, Fri.
