We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and support of our enterprise infrastructure and application platforms. This role will focus on 40% infrastructure engineering (servers, networking, middleware), 20% Oracle DBA tasks, and 40% Oracle APEX development.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Oracle Linux, ORDS, Middleware, DNS, Apache, Networking, and Oracle 19c/Oracle APEX, with a strong understanding of Git-based version control and experience collaborating with DevSecOps teams to drive automation and deployment pipelines. Experience with Azure or AWS Cloud is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Middleware Engineering (40%)
- Support, help design, and maintain Oracle Linux servers, Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS), and middleware platforms supporting mission-critical applications.
- Manage Apache web servers, DNS, email routing, SSL/TLS certificates, and load balancer configurations.
- Implement networking best practices for security, availability, and performance across on-premises and hybrid environments.
- Monitor system performance, automate patching, backups, and system health checks using tools such as Ansible, shell scripting, or similar automation frameworks.
- Monitor WAF (Fastly) and SIEMENS (Splunk) for security related attacks.
- Collaborate with security and DevSecOps teams to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation for systems, procedures, and infrastructure designs.
Database Administration (20%)
- Perform Oracle 19c database administration, including backups, tuning, patching, and user management.
- Work with developers to optimize SQL queries, troubleshoot performance issues, and maintain high database availability.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure team and engineers to advise on current and future disaster recovery strategies and ensure all environments are aligned with business continuity goals.
- Support schema migrations and changes through structured version control and deployment processes.
Oracle APEX Development (40%)
- Develop and maintain Oracle APEX applications supporting continued product development.
- Integrate APEX with REST APIs, middleware, and external services where needed.
- Gather requirements, design user-friendly interfaces, and deploy secure, performant APEX applications.
- Maintain version-controlled APEX artifacts and promote structured, repeatable deployment practices.
Version Control & DevSecOps Collaboration
- Manage source code using Git and GitHub, ensuring consistent branching strategies, code reviews, and release workflows.
- Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to design and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for automated testing, building, and deployment.
- Support and enforce best practices in secure code handling, change management, and traceability across environments.
Cloud & Automation
- Work with Azure or AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC) for hybrid infrastructure deployments and cloud integrations.
- Assist in automation initiatives for infrastructure provisioning and application deployments using Terraform, Ansible, or AWS CloudFormation.
- Participate in migration planning for legacy workloads into modern, cloud-native solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure management, or DBA roles.
- Strong expertise in:
- Oracle Linux administration and system optimization.
- Oracle 19c Database administration and performance tuning.
- Oracle ApEx and PL/SQL, Stored Packages/Procedures/Functions, Triggers
- Oracle Web Development (HTML, Javascript, PL/SQL and ApEx Toolkit)
- ORDS and Oracle APEX deployments in production environments.
- Apache HTTP Server configuration, troubleshooting, and security hardening.
- DNS, email routing (Postfix/Sendmail), and networking fundamentals.
- Git/GitHub version control, branching strategies, and release management.
- Experience collaborating with DevSecOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
- Knowledge of security best practices for databases, web servers, middleware, and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Azure or AWS Cloud (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC) is a plus.
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset for troubleshooting and optimization.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills for cross-team collaboration.
- Ability to mentor junior team members and guide best practices for secure, efficient infrastructure management.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid role supporting infrastructure, database administration, and application development.
