Join the Global Cloud Services organization as the founding member of our Cloud Analytics & FinOps Engineering Platform team. You will be instrumental in establishing the technical foundation and architectural direction for ServiceNow's next-generation FinOps governance platform.
Role
We are building a modern data platform powering next-generation analytics to support ServiceNow's Cloud and AI growth. As our founding Senior Staff Software Developer for Public Cloud Analytics & FinOps Engineering Platform, you will design, architect, and implement the core foundation of our multi-cloud and private cloud cost governance data platform.
You will have ownership over data modeling, ingestion, query performance optimization, and metadata management using cutting-edge tools and frameworks like Trino, dbt, Iceberg, and Lightdash, while establishing ServiceNow as a thought leader in the FinOps space.
This is a unique opportunity to build from the ground up and shape the future of cloud financial management at enterprise scale.

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $187,600 - $328,300, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs. Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.

Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Design and architect the foundational data platform infrastructure for multi-cloud and private cloud cost governance
- Lead technical decision-making on technology stack, implementation approaches, and architectural patterns
- Establish best practices for data modeling, pipeline development, and platform scalability using modern data stack technologies
- Drive innovation in FinOps data analytics, leveraging AI/ML tools for enhanced developer productivity and platform capabilities
- Principal Software Developer - Cloud Analytics & FinOps Engineering Platform
Hands-On Development
- Build and optimize distributed data systems using Trino, dbt, Apache Iceberg, and AWS services
- Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Apache Airflow and modern orchestration frameworks
- Implement advanced data models for complex cost allocation, showback/chargeback, and unit economics analysis
- Create scalable solutions for hyperscaler cost & usage billing data integration and enterprise data blending
Platform Foundation
- Establish data lakehouse architecture on AWS, leveraging technologies like Apache Iceberg and BigQuery
- Implement metadata management. Should be familiar with AWS Glue catalog, Hive Metastore, and Iceberg-compatible catalogs
- Design query optimization strategies for complex analytics workloads across petabyte-scale datasets
- Build governance frameworks for data discovery, lineage, and quality management
AI-Driven Development
- Leverage cutting-edge AI development tools (Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development velocity
- Establish AI-augmented development practices and mentor team members on effective AI tool utilization
- Drive innovation in AI-assisted code generation, testing, and platform optimization
Thought Leadership & External Presence
- Represent ServiceNow at industry conferences and FinOps community events
- Contribute to open-source projects and establish ServiceNow's presence in the modern data stack ecosystem
- Drive technical content creation including whitepapers, blog posts, and conference presentations
- Build strategic relationships with technology vendors and the broader FinOps community
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have:
- Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
- 10+ years of experience in data or software engineering with deep expertise in distributed data systems and cloud-native architecture
- Proven experience building and scaling data platforms on AWS, including compute, storage, orchestration, and monitoring
- Expert-level proficiency with modern data stack technologies: dbt, Trino/Presto, Apache Iceberg, Apache Airflow
- Advanced SQL skills and experience with query optimization for large-scale analytics workloads
- Hands-on experience with cloud cost management and FinOps data analysis
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field required
- Full professional proficiency in English
Technical Expertise
- Modern table formats experience with Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Hudi
- Data lakehouse architecture design and implementation at scale
- Cloud-native development with AWS services (S3, EC2, EKS, Lambda, Glue, etc.)
- Containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
- Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation
- Programming proficiency in Python, SQL, and JavaScript/TypeScript
FinOps & Cloud Cost Management
- Proven track record building showback/chargeback systems at enterprise scale
- Experience with multi-cloud cost management (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Kubernetes cost allocation and container economics expertise
- Understanding of cloud billing APIs and cost optimization strategies
Leadership & Communication
- Conference speaking experience and thought leadership in data engineering or FinOps
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Proven ability to work autonomously and drive technical decisions
- Experience establishing technical foundations for new teams/products
- Excellent collaboration skills across engineering, product, and business stakeholders
Nice to Have
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
- Open-source contributions to data engineering or FinOps tools
- Experience with additional query engines (Spark, Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Data visualization experience with tools like Lightdash, Tableau, or similar
- Patent applications or publications in data systems or cloud technologies
