The Hartford currently has an in-house remote work opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation to handle cases within Rhode Island and Massachusetts. As a Staff Attorney for The Hartford, you will join a collaborative learning environment where you will have direct contact with our Claims Professionals all while working from home! Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an experienced Attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
• Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise.
• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues
• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures
• Promptly and efficiently handle the disposition of assigned cases
• Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions
• Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients
• Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain high level of professional expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling Workers’ Compensation cases
• JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Massachusetts and Rhode Island
• Additional licensure to practice law in Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine are a plus!
• Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
• Excellent legal research and writing skills
• Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
• Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
• Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
NOTE: This is a remote work position however, the selected candidate should be available to travel locally throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$128,000 - $192,000
