About the Role
Our Engineering team creates innovative product experiences that power personalized marketing at massive scale. We develop cutting-edge applications and systems that process 100s of billions of messages and events per year, enabling marketers to connect effectively with hundreds of millions of consumers. Our Quality Engineering team builds a platform that enables a test-driven culture, making tests simple, fast, and effective for engineers. Our goal is to ensure engineers can confidently verify both individual applications and complex integrations with minimal friction.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering teams across the organization, as well as executive leadership, to standardize and automate testing practices. You'll work closely with platform engineers to enhance test visibility and coverage insights, ensuring engineers have fast, actionable feedback loops integrated seamlessly into their development workflow.

What You'll Accomplish

  • Constantly improve the quality of the project you are working on, both via code contributions as well as long-term advocacy for larger-scale changes
  • Empower engineers and leadership with clear visibility into test coverage, stability, and effectiveness, enabling data-driven improvements to product quality
  • Optimize test strategies to ensure engineers focus on high-value and efficient testing across unit, integration, and UI/E2E layers
  • Reduce reliance on shared staging environments by improving test data provisioning, enabling engineers to write more isolated, deterministic tests
  • Drive organizational adoption of testing best practices by leading workshops, writing documentation, and collaborating across teams
  • Deeply integrate test patterns (JUnit, JMeter, Gradle/Maven) with our Continuous Integration platform to streamline workflows

Your Expertise

  • 5+ years of professional experience with strong opinions and expertise in Java testing best practices, with a focus on scalability across multiple teams and services
  • Ability to evaluate code quality, quickly assess unfamiliar codebases, and recommend practical automation improvements
  • Expertise in test data management, including mocking, test fixtures, and data provisioning tools (WireMock, TestContainers)
  • Experience with test observability, including dashboards, flaky test detection, and automated quality reporting
  • Ability to balance trade-offs between reliability, coverage, and maintainability when designing testing solutions
  • Deep knowledge of Java testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and performance testing tools (Gatling, JMeter, VisualVM, JFR, YourKit)

What We Use

  • Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
  • Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm
  • Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
  • Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and PlaywrightOur automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, lots of data and built with Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace 🤗, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $144,840 - $210,000 annually + equity + benefits
- Equity is a substantial part of the total compensation package
