We are seeking a seasoned Full stack Software Engineer to join our growing AI team, focused on enabling powerful, intuitive AI interactions with language models. This role is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge internal tools that empower our engineers and accelerate innovation across the company.

You’ll play a key role in building AI-driven features, developing connectors for AI agents to interact with dbt models, and creating AI-compatible software systems that automate and enhance workflows. If you thrive at the intersection of software engineering and applied AI, this is the role for you.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain backend systems that enable AI tooling and workflows for internal use.
  • Integrate with LLM platforms such as OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini, using APIs to power real-time interactions and automation.
  • Develop tools for LLM evaluations, as well as monitoring and observability frameworks to ensure reliable AI behavior.
  • Collaborate with AI researchers, product teams, and internal developers to create scalable and safe AI integrations.
  • Contribute to internal infrastructure that supports the future of AI features at dbt Labs.
  • (Future scope) Write performance-critical modules or components in Rust as needs arise.
Who You Are
  • You’re a full stack engineer with several years of experience building production-grade systems.
  • You have deep expertise in Python and ideally exposure to Rust or a strong willingness to learn it.
  • You’ve worked extensively with LLM APIs or SDKs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Gemini), and know how to integrate and monitor their behavior in real-world applications.
  • You're comfortable writing evaluation frameworks, setting up monitoring and logging, and adapting to rapidly evolving AI tooling.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating in fast-paced, cross-functional teams is a strong plus.
  • You are excited to shape the future of AI at dbt Labs
