At January, we're transforming the lives of borrowers by bringing humanity to consumer finance. Our data-driven products empower financial institutions to streamline their collections, providing borrowers with straightforward and compassionate solutions to regain financial stability and control over their lives. We're not just expanding access to credit. We're restoring dignity and paving the way for millions to achieve financial freedom.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the DevX team, you'll be instrumental in architecting and implementing the infrastructure, tools, and processes that power January's engineering ecosystem. Working closely with product engineers and infrastructure teams, you'll create scalable, reliable systems that enable our engineers to efficiently build, test, deploy, and support our products while accelerating our ability to deliver value to customers.

What You’ll Work On

  • Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines with advanced deployment strategies (blue/green, canary) that enable seamless, reliable releases while minimizing disruption

  • Create and maintain infrastructure as code (using Terraform, CloudFormation) that allows for consistent, scalable, and secure cloud environments on AWS

  • Architect and optimize local development environments that are fast, intuitive, and closely mirror production to maximize engineer productivity

  • Develop and maintain self-service observability solutions using modern monitoring tools that provide actionable insights for troubleshooting and performance optimization

  • Implement AI-powered developer tooling that leverages LLMs to automate routine tasks, enhance code quality, and accelerate development velocity

  • Lead technical initiatives to refactor and modularize legacy components into a more maintainable, microservice-oriented architecture

What You Bring to the Table

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation using GitHub Actions or similar tools to enable reliable, efficient deployments

  • Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services and infrastructure-as-code practices using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation

  • Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and familiarity with orchestration tools for consistent environment management

  • Track record of implementing effective monitoring and observability solutions (e.g. Datadog, Prometheus, ELK) for production systems

  • Experience optimizing development workflows and build processes to improve engineer productivity

  • Excellent communication skills with experience documenting processes and collaborating across engineering teams
