What We're Looking For

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a key player in engineering and maintaining Cross River’s Data Platform. The Data Platform team engineers and operates the AWS-based platform itself, as well as the tools and applications through which our colleagues accomplish their platform-related activities. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, deploy, and maintain software in support of the platform ecosystem, with a focus on web applications and APIs that will put powerful facets of the overall platform behind a web UI, streamlining some common interactions with the platform. Your team’s work will allow key stakeholders to focus on the core of their data engineering, analysis, and data science needs, freeing them from underlying details that they needn’t be burdened with. This is important work that will help the company take another leap forward in its offerings to fintechs around the country. If you thrive in complex data environments and love building secure front ends with well-architected back ends, and if you have a passion for strong software development practices and cloud computing, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain software in support of Cross River’s Data Platform
  • Act as a thoughtful and considerate data steward, with a mind for strong data security
  • Work on a team to engineer and operate a React-based Web UI that provides straightforward features to data stakeholders throughout the company
  • Work on a team to engineer and operate a Python back-end that houses APIs and integrates with other systems
  • Interact with AWS services and technologies including Lake Formation, Glue, Iceberg, Hive, Managed Airflow, ECS, and Athena
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in the Data Platform, the UI, or individual data pipelines
  • Implement and advise on infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
  • Collaborate with teams made up of Software Engineers, Cloud Infrastructure Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and various business personnel to ensure business, security, and operational needs are met
  • Manage code and versioning effectively using Git
  • Participate in architectural discussions on pipeline and platform-level feature designs
  • Ensure best practices around development and documentation

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, with a strong focus in and around web development, API development, and cloud infrastructure
  • Proven experience with AWS cloud environments (Lake Formation, Glue, ECR, ECS, EMR, IAM, S3, Cloud Watch, and others)
  • Strong experience using Git for version control and review processes
  • Strong web development skills
  • Strong back end / API development skills
  • Strong background in Infrastructure as Code
  • Very strong problem-solving skills and an enthusiasm for delivering working, performant, and operationally-stable solutions

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in all pieces of the stack, from APIs to client-side Web Development to Infrastructure as code
  • Strong usage of React
  • Strong background in Python
  • Strong usage of Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience working with containers as part of your DevX
  • Agile experience in either a Scrum or Kanban setting
