Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
The Data Platform team builds and operates systems to centralize all of Coinbase's internal and third-party data, making it easy for teams across the company to access, process, and transform that data for analytics, machine learning, and powering end-user experiences. As an engineer on the team you will contribute to the full spectrum of our systems, from managing foundational processing and data storage, to building and maintaining scalable pipelines, to developing frameworks, tools, and internal applications to make that data easily and efficiently available to other teams and systems.

- Work closely with other teams to evangelize best practices through documentation, tutorials, examples, and complete implementations.
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- 7+ years of relevant work experience
- Strong Golang, Java or Python backend development skills.
- General experience working with data systems or data pipelines
- Leverage your Cloud (AWS/GCP), Kafka, Spark/Flink expertise to scale our streaming infra & compute to the next 5x level.
- Extensive experience building streaming applications and streaming platforms, both as a client and as an operator.
- Well-versed in industry best practices, and you are as comfortable discussing and communicating architectural designs and patterns as you are implementing them.
- Experience with core AWS services and concepts (S3, IAM, autoscaling groups), or devops experience.
- Hands-on experience building streaming data systems using Spark/Flink on Kafka.
- Hands-on experience building change data capture pipelines using open-source systems such as Debezium and Databricks.
- Hands-on experience standing up, operating, and maintaining Kafka and Spark clusters.
