Stord is revolutionizing the logistics industry with our cloud-based supply chain platform. Our AI team builds intelligent, LLM-driven features — including conversational agents, automated workflows, and AI-powered decision support — that are deeply integrated across Stord's product suite.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build core features on the AI Platform team. This is a hands-on engineering role — you will design and deliver complex AI-powered features, contribute to architectural decisions, and help raise the quality bar through strong technical execution. You'll work daily in our TypeScript-based AI platform built on Cloudflare Workers, building the agent infrastructure, tool systems, and integrations that power Stord's AI capabilities.
The right person for this role ships reliable, well-designed systems and is growing toward technical leadership. You write clean, idiomatic TypeScript, you have experience building LLM-powered features in production, and you know the difference between accepting model output and directing it toward high-quality results.

What You'll DoHands-On Engineering
  • Design and build features across our AI platform: agent tool systems, prompt pipelines, integration APIs, and edge-deployed services

  • Work daily in our TypeScript stack: Hono on Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects for stateful agents, D1/Drizzle for persistence, and the AI SDK (Anthropic Claude) for model interaction

  • Build scope-aware tool systems that safely expose platform capabilities (orders, inventory, knowledge base) to AI agents

  • Design fault-tolerant integrations with downstream services, including Elixir/Phoenix APIs, and ensure graceful degradation

  • Own features end-to-end: from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring

AI/LLM Application Development
  • Build and iterate on agentic AI features — tool calling, context management, multi-step workflows, and confidence-based routing

  • Implement prompt engineering patterns, evaluation frameworks, and observability for LLM-powered systems

  • Integrate ML model outputs via API layers, collaborating with Data Scientists to understand model requirements and design clean integration boundaries

  • Contribute to the design of the Stord Agent Platform: agent orchestration, skill registries, and human-in-the-loop patterns

Technical Growth & Influence
  • Contribute to architectural decisions through design docs, code reviews, and technical discussions — forming well-reasoned opinions and defending them constructively

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on the team

  • Identify technical risks, propose improvements, and advocate for quality — don't wait to be assigned a ticket

  • Create leverage through clear code, well-documented decisions, and reusable patterns that make others faster

  • Use AI coding tools effectively, maintaining a strong independent technical POV and producing high-quality results rather than accepting raw model output uncritically

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Design on feature development, providing technical perspective on feasibility and trade-offs

  • Support other product engineering teams in adopting AI capabilities within their domains

  • Participate in sprint planning, design reviews, and cross-team syncs

What You'll NeedRequired Technical Skills
  • TypeScript (2+ years in production) — You write idiomatic, well-structured TypeScript and are comfortable owning significant portions of a TypeScript codebase. This is the primary language of the AI platform.

  • AI/LLM Application Development — You have built and shipped LLM-powered or agentic features in production. You understand prompt engineering, tool/function calling, context management, and the practical challenges of making AI systems reliable.

  • Distributed Systems & Edge Computing — Experience building stateful or high-availability services. Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, or similar edge runtime experience is a strong plus.

  • API Design & Integration — Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specifications, and event-driven architectures. You'll integrate with multiple backend services daily.

  • Database & Persistence — Strong SQL fundamentals. Experience with embedded/edge databases (D1, SQLite) or PostgreSQL. Drizzle ORM experience is a plus.

  • Cloud Platforms — Hands-on experience with Cloudflare, GCP, or AWS. Understanding of serverless and edge deployment models.

  • Observability — Experience instrumenting production systems with OpenTelemetry, Datadog, or similar. You know what to measure and how to debug in production.

Required Soft Skills
  • Ownership & Accountability — You own features end-to-end and take pride in what you ship. You follow through from design to production and don't drop things.

  • Strong Communication — You can explain technical decisions and trade-offs to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders. You ask good questions and listen well.

  • Collaborative Approach — You work well with others, give constructive code review feedback, and actively seek input from teammates.

  • Production Mindset — You prioritize reliability and user impact. You think about failure modes, monitoring, and operational concerns as part of your design process.

  • Learning Agility — You're comfortable with rapidly evolving AI/ML technologies and tools. You stay current without chasing hype.

  • Directed AI-Assisted Development — You know how to use AI coding tools as a productivity multiplier while maintaining quality and your own technical judgment.

Nice to Have
  • Elixir/Phoenix experience or familiarity (downstream services use Elixir)

  • Experience with the Cloudflare developer platform (Workers, Durable Objects, D1, R2, Vectorize, AI Gateway, Queues)

  • Experience with Anthropic Claude, the AI SDK (ai / @ai-sdk/anthropic), or Model Context Protocol (MCP)

  • Knowledge of logistics, e-commerce, or supply chain domains

  • Experience with WebSocket-based real-time systems

  • Familiarity with scope-based authorization and multi-tenant systems

  • Contributions to open-source TypeScript or AI projects
