The Senior Software Development Engineer will work on Care Paths, a personalized experience within Aetna Health that provides members with the ability to interact with their healthcare focused on specific topics or conditions, delivering a care management experience that helps members navigate their health journey. • Deploy and operate services on AWS with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Snyk, monitoring via New Relic, and owning the full development lifecycle from requirements to production.

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, write comprehensive test cases, and collaborate with cross-functional teams using Jira.

  • Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, challenge existing processes, and propose innovative solutions to enhance system performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of professional software development experience with 5+ years of Node.js server-side development and 3+ years of Java development experience.

  • Strong experience with microservices architecture, Kafka messaging systems, GraphQL APIs, CMS platforms (Contentful or similar), and multiple database types (SQL/NoSQL) including database migration strategies.

  • Experience building Backend for Frontend (BFF) architectures serving multiple client platforms, proficiency with AWS cloud services, GitHub Actions for CI/CD automation, Snyk or similar security scanning tools, and New Relic or similar observability/monitoring tools.

  • Proven ability to write test cases, own end-to-end delivery from development to production, and experience with Jira for agile project management.

  • Demonstrated mentoring and leadership skills with a proactive, inquisitive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), API security and authentication mechanisms, and distributed tracing and observability frameworks.

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience in healthcare or member-facing digital products.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant software development experience).
